Has anyone here read Monte's comments on the racer and the Tesoro vs. the X705? I wonder your opinions on this?
Thx,
homebre

Not seen anything about them . Anyway all machines have there place .

It's an ongoing conversation between two members right now, so I'll refrain from saying too much, but if he used only the 5x10 ", he got the separation of a 10" with the depth of a 5". He might as well have used the 10.5" and had the benefit of more depth.

just an opinion nothing more. we all have them. i say use what u like to use ,and what enjoyable for u . minelabs arnt known to do well on out of ground or disturbed ground tests anyway. they do however preform when it counts and thats all that matters really. all machines find metal and are plagued by iron even the mighty tesoro. i dont let others opinions sway me from my machine of choice and u shouldnt either . some of the so called best machine by popular opinion i hated. for the record i do not use a tesoro or a minelab. cheers folks HH

To each their own. I've personally never been impressed by a 20 sentence response that could have been done with half a sentence. Most people like a nice short direct answer. Not everything requires an essay. Some people are easily impressed though.

Quick answer. If I was hunting very heavy iron a lot I might go Racer, otherwise I'd go 705.

Been a member here for a while but barely have time to read let alone post. Just got a 705 gold & love it & wanted to take time to let others know how great of a unit it is. Been detecting 40 years....Currently have 14 detectors by 7 mfg's which includes 4 of the mentioned mfg. A great deal of respect for those that have a lot more knowledge about the mechanics than I do. I'm just a user & like what works for me at the type sites I select....the 705 is perfect. Love the features & it is a great companion to my Sov GT. To my surprise the 18.75khz is a hound dog on quarters. A 4 hour hunt at a small rural elementary school yesterday gave me 83 coins of which 5 where nickels & 65 were quarters. In the 4 short hunts I have used to learn the 705 I have found 185 coins of which only 8 were nickels & 106 were quarters. I'm still learning on low conductors but the high conductors with the 10"x5" amaze me. By the way, I had worked the 4 sites previously & very few of the finds were fresh drops. Again, Love the Xterra........Happy Hunting to all.

Yes the arprs.org forum i remember reading the 705 Monte tested and said it did not do well on the so called nail board test and the sweep speed was not forgiving =he didnt say if the nail board test was done using the stock 9" coil or a smaller coil ==as for sweep speed every detector -we know has a preferred window for the best performance -- i had a 70 a few years ago and i liked its performance espcially with the 6" concentric coil == had great success - i plan on buying a 705 in the near future , rick

All machines mentioned have those who swear by them and those who swear at them. They are all worthy in my opinion, Though I have not owned all of them, I have several years on some of them. I have high respect for Monte and have learned from his posts, I don't agree 100% with anyone. Personal preference and experience colors every ones estimate of what hunts best and I think what is under the coil at the time makes for a lot of opinion direction. :detecting:
