Monterey Pass

On June 22nd the first skirmish occurred along the Monterey Mountain pass near Blue Ridge Summit. An armed civilian militia encountered a detachment of Confederates under General Albert Jenkins. The militia was forced to retreat after a very brief skirmish. General Jenkins and his Confederate troops withdrew toward Hagerstown joining General Richard S. Ewell, who was advancing with a larger force.

Following the events at the Battle of Gettysburg, the Confederate Army retreated via Emmitsburg. On July 5th, General Stuart's soldiers were engaged in some small skirmishes with General Custer's Federal soldiers as he made his way back to General Robert E. Lee's army. The mountain swamp at Monterey Pass bogged down Stuart and the Army of Northern Virginia as they retreated. The confedertas dug in and held off union cavalary while the main body retreated towards Williamsport.
When the boys from Taneytown found this spot the relics were unbelievable! 200 mGardners the first time in, GM tounge,3 texas buttons,1 gold coin,CS frame buckle and tons more. The boys kept the lid on for about 1 year before letting it known to the relic community.

Yeah I know a guy who found 3 Texas buttons there in the same hole. I've only been once and didn't find anything. I was just wondering if there was anything left!! It's hard to find spots this time of year.
