With the MXT in a trash park, that i know there are old coins, afriend of mine has found lots back in 1980s but he dose not hunt anymore.would you use the 5.3 coil or the 9.5. coins are 7" to 8" deep. can the 5.3 go that deep. Thanks much for your help

I will let Monte answer whether a 5.3 will reach 8". I know the 9.5 is not going to work until the trash is gone. Finding the old coins in the 80's was no problem but people have probably hunted that park for 25 more years leaving only the deeper coins. Until you remove the trash and unmask the deeper coins you will have trouble with the large coil. Rob

With the 5.3 Eclipse coil on my dfx (same for mxt)I hit a 25 Merc at 7.5 inches. As rcasio said though, the 9.5 is deeper but until you clean the surface clad may be hard to get to.

Thanks guys, I know that the 9.5 gose deeper, but tha trash is bad. I know Monte use the 5.3 alot so i though he might know if that little coil would be better. I have hunted it with the 9.5 befor and get so many hits that the MXT could not lock on anything. That may be a park to just skip. It has been a park from 1700s so it has a lot of trash. Thanks for your help, and good hunting. Flintstone

I would not skip! Trashy parks are all I hunt! I go in with the Eclipse 5.3 and the separation is very nice. You are right with the stock coil it is a headache and a half!:rage:

There is no way I could pass up a 1700 park. Just use a small coil and go sloooow!! I use a 5" on my MXT and a 5.3 on my IDX. Rob

Go to www.firstontop.com click on the XL PRO tips and tricks#7This show how I use the small and large coils for deep SILVER
This works very good for me and I hope this will help.
Good luck to you.:twodetecting:

hi flintstone!
this is acommon occurance in trashy parks, that is why the small coil is the better weapon of choice!..it allows better separation of
targets by having the detector electronically "see" fewer targets that can physically be under the coil at one time!.this allows the
detector to respond more quickly to those targets, and to properly identify them with reduced masking effect!

Thinks guys, So with the small coil, will the vdi still jump arownd like tha bigger 9.5. I also have the 6x10 dd if that would be better.I went to the park one time and it was so bad with the 9.5 i only stayed about one hour. I did find lots of new money. but i just had to dig any vdi that hit two or three times in the same spot.My friend showed me some of the seated coins and about 50 yes 50 indian heads he got from that park back in the 80,s so i know there must be more. Thinks for all the help, you guys always help so much. Thinks Flintstone

Monte, I just picked up a 5.3 bullseye for my XLT. Are there any adjustments you make to compensate for a small coil or will it run fine in one of the factory settings.

I am new to the XLT and using a small coil so any advice you might have would be appreciated. Thanks, Keith

Thanks Monte, This is a inter city, that was started when the town was started<Columbus Ohio> so that is old. Why there is so much trash is all summer, they have live bands and all kinds of out door events there and have since it was started, I know I am not that good with my MXT, had it about 1 1/2 years. That park has old and new trash. I will just have to take my time. Thinks for the help, and if your friends want to hunt this park I will be more than glad to show them to it. Thinks Flintstone

hi flinstone!
as monte indicated and i agree.in order for you to find the deeper old coins, you must electronically see around the trash!this is MUCH easier to accomplish when the surface trash has been removed, and really the only wat to do that is to rake the site,or systematically dig all surface targetd so the detector with the small coil CAN see better!if you do not do this then you will encounter masking from adjacent targets regardless of the coil used!even the fastest of prosessors cannot distinguish trash for coin when the two targets are over each other in the ground, and generally that target WILL be the shallow target that is causing the masking effect!thus in theory,if you are able to remove these shallow "junk" targets then the coil will electronically see and properly identify that coin that was under the junk target!..again the only way to effectively do this is to clean the site!

I never use a factory setting. I only use my custom programs which start with the Relic program and get adjusted from there. If you're going to use a factory program as you learn your XLT, I strongly suggest it be the Relic program.
