Monte since you like the M6

What would be the very best control setting (that you use) that might provide the best performance if ground conditions are good and trash minimal?

Not Monte, but here's my 2 cents. When I first started with my machine I used the factory presets. As I learned on the machine I found myself using less and less discrimination and doing more analysis of the signal on my own. If going to an area that has minimal ground mineralization and little trash, I would recommend turning discrimination about halfway between nothing and the first recommendation. I run sensitivity just a bit past recommendation and use the discrimination between my ears. As you get more familiar with the machine you will get better at determining which signal you should spend you time pursuing. M6 is a great machine and I am sure that you will have great luck.

then I run the M6 with the Discrimination set on Minimum (all metal accept motion mode) with the trigger forward to activate the 7-Tone audio (most of the time) and the Sensitivity set as high as I can tolerate.

Now, if I am working a site with "coin hunting" in mind that has mainly modern trash (foil pull tabs, etc.) then I often set the Disc. level at the factory preset marker and use Tone ID perhaps 50% of the time.

When working an older site that has a fair amount of iron (especially nails) then I will also use the Minimum Disc. setting and toggle the trigger into 7-Tone audio as I like to hear the iron so I am aware of it and can be alerted to a possible good target near it.

Sometimes, but very seldom, am I at the preset Sensitivity setting. I am usually above that a little to maximum.

While I like the 7-Tone Audio ID it can sometimes get a little annoying or I just want to hear a nice single tine response. I would guess I use Tone ID perhaps half the time, give or take, when using an M6. It just depends upon the site.

Also, as with the MXT, I prefer to get a good, slightly positive Ground Balance at a site and then Lock that setting. I'll check and update as needed, but because many of the sites I hunt have a lot of iron-based junk, a tracking circuit can be busy working on trying to balance to it and I just want the detector to pay attention to the desired task. :) Sometimes, in too much iron, the detector can track to the point where it has a far less functional GB for my liking, so I take control and Lock the setting I want.
