you made it over to this side of the mountains or how your ghost town/ military encampment metal detecting trip went. I have been so busy with work and detecting with the MXT, I haven't had much time to keep up with the forums. I bought the ACE 250 for my wife and she is completely addicted.
I have been researching alot more of the local military/ logging camp area's to the east.
On one trip I dug a really cool dummy bomb, and a bunch of .50 & .06 casing's. On another trip 1 merc. and a couple military buttons. I met a guy who has a couple of older books that detail alot of the local military scirmish's with the indians. We are starting to map some new area's.
Happy Hunting
Hope to hear from you.

the two trips I made there were hampered a little bit by my health limiting how long I could hunt, and on the last trip (Labor Day Week) two of the five towns I especially wanted to work had record-setting brush growth. At least a "record" compared to all the visits I have made (several times a year) since 1982, and worse than on any occasional visits before that since my first trip in May of '69. Very, very dense, waist-high or taller.

This year, thunderstorms, dust-storms and rain were NOT an issue. beautiful weather almost every day.

Due to the growth I spent a little more time doing some research locally. There's always next year! :)

The military and pioneer encampment sites I didn't make it to. Next year's plans will be 'tested' in advance and I'll have a friend let me know how brushed-up the ghost towns are and, if they are too bad, then I'll concentrate on the encampment sites. Might just do that anyway.

It sounds like you're on the right path with researching and meeting people with added mapping, etc. Keep it up. I especially envy the fact that your wife has got the detecting bug as that can add a whole new sort of 'fun' to your detecting trips. Teasing each other as to who made the oldest find, the best find, the most finds, etc., and the best part is they all go home to rest under the same roof!

Happy Hunting, and let's hope this winter isn't too harsh. I'll head back over to 'the other side' next weekend for some pheasant hunting and detecting so I appreciate the mild start of fall.
