Hey all,
Ive sort of been rockhounding and Gold prospecting this summer. havent had the MXT out in a few months.
I HAVE found Gold, on the side of a mountain, and Ive found numerous Prospects and Mines that arent claimed.
When I tryed to get a notice of intent to run a sluice box, I was denied, on account of BULL TROUT, being in every waterway around
??? go figure , theyre everywhere, but endangered???
then ,, it dawns on me,,, My MXT ! ! hmmm maybe
So , I'm way up on the backside of a mountain, around 7500 ft, detectin an area that the old timers went crazy on.
In my own little world,,,lookin down, headphones on,, and I SMELL BEAR:yikes:
I know what bear smells like,, dang it , i tell ya , I couldnt go back to detectin.
I felt like he was watchin me, (Sneaky Buggers)
and when i pulled out on the 4 wheeler, the smell was hangin for quite a ways, so I'm wonderin if he/she was circling me.
I also wonder ,if the sounds coming from my headphones attracted it ??
And then theres CATs and WOLVES in the area, and there I am ,little beeps sounding off. Lookin at the ground, wandering aimlessly
To a Predator, that eats Elk,and Sheep Im sure I look like an EASY MEAL
Anyhow, until I find someone to head up with me, I'm A FLATLAND Detectorist!
BTW, any body interested ?
Well, good luck to you all
Winter is on its way.
Dusty

First thing I would do is start carrying a .44 mag pistol. Second thing I would do is have a partner carrying a 300 win mag rifle:twodetecting: I have spent a lot of time in Montana and Alaska with the Grizzly's and there nothing to take lightly:ranting: Good luck in finding a partner!!!!!!!!!!!! Should have no problem with the price of gold raising.

Good luck Dusty. Craig has some sound advice. I'd jump at the chance to go if I was in your area. It's not often you can go on a "hunt" and wonder which end of it you're on.

Good luck Rusty and PLEASE be careful out there. We love reading your posts! Hopefully you'll be able to find a hunting friend and BOTH of you carry a weapon of choice. It makes me glad I'm living in this boring state of Illinois. HH, Nancy

Dusty,
I know what you are saying, they smell. Saw a huge griz on sunday about 15 miles north of Gardner. Whenever Im in the woods detecting I only use one earphone or just the speaker(the beeping may be like a wearing a bell in the woods and keep them away). I usually pack a pistol in the woods as well. I may have to try a trip your way, this fall is jammed but maybe detecting season '11? Good luck and stay safe!

now i don't know how practical this is but i've always heard that all you need to do is hunt with someone slower than you.

Also make sure he is using another brand. You would hate to get a good Whites machine all chewed up.

Lol,
Funny stuff,,you guys!!!!,,lol
Well, Ive been huntin a little lower this week,,,and takin the Girlfriend. Shes my armed guard now :clapping:
I hunted HARD in a spot that ive found fine gold,(panning),,I even brought along the EDGE.. Theres just nothing big enough ,
and/ or I'm not too adept at "Prospecting Mode" yet.
So I finally gave in , and cleaned out the cracks in some exposed bedrock, to pack home,,(the head geologist at Nat'l forest
asked that I Not pan hillside materials in the creek, too much silt!
And Holy Mackeral !! I got 6 nice chunky pieces, that I could pick out of the pan with tweezers.
Soooo, now i'm thinkin its probably more productive to use The OLD Fashioned, Time tested, bent over, back breaking,
run alot of dirt methods....?
I dont know,? I really want to use the MXT for gold.
And I have to remember, my first outings in RELIC, and C&J, were dead runs, then as I learnt more about the Modes, i did better,
Then I found that 1901 dime !
I guess I shouldnt give up on it yet
But hey ,, Winters on its way, we all better get out there and dig before the ground freezes.
Good luck
Dusty

Way to go Dusty. That would be so remarkable to be able to find gold like that. I'm jealous, but so glad you can tell us all about it. No bears apparently. Thanks for posting and keep up the good hobby! HH, Nancy
