I have been hoping to find a silver coin every month in the year of 2012. Nothing yet in April so with Monday being the last day of the month, I just had to go out and give it one last try. Decided to hit my favorite Peoria park. I usually find something decent there and wasn't disappointed. I got there about 3:00 PM so only had about 4 hours to hunt. I managed 3 wheats, 2 from the 20's and 1 from the 30's plus 1 indian cent. I managed to get my silver for this month with 2 dimes. To keep from scratching a silver coin I put it in a vial of water and clean it when I get home. You never know when it could be a 1916-D mercury dime and scratching it by rubbing the dirt off would destroy its collectors value. The first dime I cleaned when I got home was a 1950 Roosevelt. The second dime was a Mercury and since it was quite deep I figured it might be an old one. After cleaning I could see that it was in great shape with hardly any wear. When I put it under the magnifying glass the 1916 date popped out at me and I think my heart skipped a beat or two. I turned it over almost afraid to look at the mint mark and there it was, a bare spot where the D should have been. Even though its not the rare dime I was hoping for I am thrilled with it. Isn't it funny that the letter D can be the difference between a 12 dollar coin and a 4,500 dollar coin.
