I managed to dodge a few rainstorms and went hunting this afternoon. I headed off to the park where I found the Walking Lib Half a couple weeks ago. Since it's been raining off-and-on for several days, I knew the ground there would be nice and moist, perfect for digging.
Once I got there, I realized I was going to have some fun, as there were standing puddles in some places, and the grass was wet everywhere, even when it wasn't raining lightly. I started searching an area that I had scouted out the last time. I managed to pull up a couple Wheat's right off the bat, then nothing old for over an hour. I moved about 20' away, and started a pattern there heading back to where I was, and the finds were even more dismal. Then I decided to head back to where I had started, and work a pattern in the opposite direction. Bingo! Another Wheat.
The finds started petering out again, so I moved off to an area about 100' away, where I had pulled a few Wheat's from last year. I started working slowly, and sure enough, Bam Bam Bam, three Wheat's together. There was another Wheat about 12' away from those. Laurie called me about then, and said she was coming out. She brought the older two boys out to let them run around and stretch their legs.
I ended up finding two more Wheat's before we left, as a major t-storm was moving into the area. The dates are '20, '28, '36, '39, '40, '41, '49D, and two '50D's.
