The weather was perfect today for detecting. I decided to kill two birds with one stone, and take the older boys out and let them run around the playground next to the spot I've been working lately. My better half decided to come with me, just to get out and enjoy the weather.
The spot I'm hunting is an old picnic spot, still in use today as a picnic spot, so you can imagine the trash. There's a kiddie playground next to it, so there's a lot of traffic there. Trash is everywhere, so I'm using either my 5" coil, or the 8" coil, with my Sens. turned down to 5 on my CZ-5. Slow swinging is the key here. I started hunting, just slowly swingin my "hockey puck", listening for the deeper coins, although I was digging nothing but shallow stuff at first.
Shortly thereafter, I got that nice, soft, high-pitched hit of a 4" deep coin. I cut a plug, flipped it over, checked, and the target's still in the hole. I scooped as much of the loose dirt out, checked it, nothing. I activated my Vibraprobe, scanned, and got a hit at about 7 o'clock in the hole. I stuck the tip of my Lesche into the side of the hole, and started to pop out of divot of dirt. I felt that my Lesche was caught on a root, which prevented the divot from popping out completely. But, I had managed to pry enough dirt loose to see that wonder sight of a silver dime laying in the dirt. I wish I had brought my camera! I called Laurie over to look at it. Here's what I got:

Of course, it looks like I managed to gouge the ear of Liberty really good. Otherwise, this dime is in great shape. Not as quite as close to "mint" as the last one to come out of this spot, but close enough. It'll replace the other '31S Merc that I already have in my collection!
