Mojave with 8x9 coil

Sven

Well-known member
Just did some air and dirt box testing with a borrowed 8x9 coil and compared it to the 7" with identical settings.

Air testing on some coins and rings found the 8x9 was about 1" deeper.
on a silver half dime identical, on a gold ring identical.
Biggest advantage was on a Canadian nickel the 8x9 had 2-3" over the 7"

Actual dirt box testing, the 8x9 was about 1" deeper

The 8x9 generally on Tesoros I have used had the same depth as the 8" round.

I've also found the Mojave with the 8" donut coil is about an inch deeper then the 7" precision coil.
It also hits the Canadian nickel hard...must try my 8x9 off the Golden and see if I get similar results.

Didn't make up any chart, just scribbled on some paper.
With the 8x9 the Mojave has similar air depth as the Silver with the 8x9, would say average Tesoro air test depth.
Can Nickel 8-9"
1/2 Dime 6"
Large cent 9"
Can $1 and $2 coins 8-9
22 brass casing 5"
14kt gold mans wedding band 9"
thin 10kt ladies ring 7"

The 7" coil was approx. 1" or less than the above numbers, except for the nickel.

I will add, it will hit harder audio wise and a bit deeper on Can clad coins on edge. This is a really strong point for Tesoro detectors.

I found the 8 x 9 OOR coil to be about one inch deeper as well. I have a buried silver Rosie in my back yard and with the seven inch, it hits the dime, but barely and the signal is broken. With the 8 x 9 that came with my Golden, the signal is nice and clear, strong, and in both directions. The dime is freshly buried.

How deep is the dime buried?

Sorry about leaving out that detail... it is 5 inches deep. Not really that deep when you compare to others, but I also don't think the soil conditions are all that good either.

Thanks, Silver. I was just curious.
