Mojave owners whats your thoughts so far?

i really like mine. I've only used the compadre before but it adds an inch or 2 of depth
and with the ground condition switch it is usable in a few areas that made my compadre unstable.
With the sensitivity at 2ish it is super easy to pick up targets next to fence posts and
playground equipment and maxed it hits the 8" coins I have buried in my test garden.
Planning on selling my compadre and getting a 4 or 5.75 coil for the Mojave.

I can't think of another detector that I would recommend in the that price range. For many people it may be the only machine they will ever need. I wouldn't say
It's ground breaking, but it gives you all that you need without extra features and extra price.

Is it kind of a Vaquero with less features?

Better description is a compadre with the sensitivity and ground switch.
For the price I also can't think of anything else I'd recommend. That ground switch pits it in its own class at that price.
Liked it so much I have 2

Awesome machine for the price, and exactly what I'd recommend for someone getting into land metal detecting. No GB pot to set (often incorrectly by newbies), but it still has adjustable ground balance that should work well in 90% of the places you'll hunt. Depth has been very good with the stock 7" coil and pinpointing dead center (it's a concentric) Target responses are solid, even on the "high" ground minerals setting. Discrimination works perfectly, as with most Tesoros, and it has a great graphic on the faceplate to show where metals drop out.

Mojave is the perfect machine for the new guy who want's do do some serious detecting, yet simple enough for a child to use. It can do most of what several more expensive Tesoro models can, and in some cases more (with Mojave's greater range of disc. acceptance).

Highly recommended.

I would have to say that Tesoro hit it out of the park on this one. It is an awsome turn on and go scout machine to search for early habitation with the wider disc range. It loves round objects and treasure like the compadre. It's separation as far as I can tell is in line with their higher end models. It can practically hunt in any soil. Tabman is at the beach with it right now, waiting to hear how that went etc. Couldn't recommend it more.

I wish you would not buy one. I would hate for you to have to dig a lot of coins. I don't want to see any pictures of gold that it will hit on very easy. You should get a 3030. That way it will take a lot longer to have it pay for its self. The Mojave is just pocket change compared to some of them big boys. Yep, just a wast of your change.
You would look funny out their detecting with some of them guys that have them big detectors. It would look very bad for them when you come up with that small gold rind that they walked over..
I hope this helps.. KEN

I'm just wondering, if a person already has a Vaquero and a Compadre, does the Mojave bring enough additional advantage to justify buying one?

You would probably sell the Compadre after using it.

I have them both and more and I will not be selling either.
The Mojave fits a small spot in my collection. It will fit next to my compadre as beginner first machines for newbie(and me too for it's simplicity) and especially if with a newbie and ground is bad.
Also, I will be using the coil on my other 5 pin machines.

I'm especially loyal to my little 'compadre' which has found me more gold than all my other detectors combined.

I'm interested in a Mojave but just wondering if it has some special 'mojo', just being a good tool is not really good enough, the compadre and vaq are good tools, too much overlap...

Mojave is exactly what you want your Compadre to be when it grows up. Just picture your Compadre gaining a couple inches in depth, acquiring the ability to accept different coils, and being able to detect in nearly any soil without chattering away.
That's the Mojave.

The mojave is "quiet" running I hear, which I like, but it is 180 ED? How is it different I wonder?

The compadre is not particularly quiet.

The Mojave and Compadre both have ed180 disc which allows all metal to come through in the disc mode. ED120 starts the disc higher blocking out small ferrous. Nails, small flat tin etc. Ed180 at 0 disc kind of like am all metal mode. ED120 0 disc and you still won't hear the small iron.

What I'm confused about, if it is basically a deeper, hotter compadre, then it wouldn't be quiet... it would be chatty as hell. I realize that you can turn the disc up. Does it have a better disc circuit?

It isn't just a compadre. It's got new circuitry according to Allen and rusty.
We only use that comparison because it's a low end priced machine and also the only other current 12khz machine. It isn't a really just a super up compadre. We just use that as a similarity.

its a 250$ detector  like all detectors it will have its good and not so good points finding what they are and using its strengths is what detecting is all about  and maybe it has none for some users.

I read what people say but I watch the classifieds as actions speak louder than words in most cases regarding detectors.
