Modulated volume question?????

I a thr

Member
I recently purchased an older CZ3D and have only got to use it a few times due to WINTER. I seriously have found an IH penny every time out with the machine. I mainly hunt old home sites which are now farm fields. Some trash and nails but have no problem running discriminate at 1 and sens at the 4.8 as this is max for the machine. GB varies a bit but generally in the 5 or 6 range. My question is, could someone enlighten me if I would be better of running the modulated volume high or low?? I understand that below 5 will indicate depth by fainter sound, but is there an advantage one way or the other for eliminating the masking of nails or other small iron? Also discrimination setting, is 0, 1, or 2 setting any better for eliminating the masking affect. Thus far I have read probably every article I can find on the 3D operation but was hoping for a bit more on your volume settings. Maybe a matter of preference?? I have not tried the lower volume setting yet, would it be a benefit? I do use KillerBs and Grey Ghost head phones so think I'm fine in that department. Depth of coins in the type of places I hunt can be all over the place as these field do get tilled yearly and have often times found old coins on top of the soil. On the other hand the coins cold be as deep as 12" +. I realize the deep ones may not be recoverable but what I am saying is the old coins will range in depth from surface to very deep. Any experienced knowledge appreciated.

Bill I run my volume at 10 on my CZ-3D and then adjust sound through my headphones. I also use Killer B's (wasp). Seems to work well for me.
Good Luck

Basically modulated volume comes into play as when one gets a hit he knows right from the get go if its shallow or deep as some don't want to be bothered by shallow clad which sometimes backfires as have found some nice silver over the years at 1-2 inches...I personally run volume at 10 as I want to hear every little whisper..and silver coins drop deep in our area. For what its worth have read where some get better audio and variances with modulated but don't work for me. Might experiment with your finds trying them in both and judge for yourself with your hearing and course your brand of headphones as what works for one guy doesn't for another..
In addendum even running without modulated when a silver coin is deep just sounds different than a shallow one but have been running CZ's for 16 years..and press the pinpoint button and the difference is obvious....

Thanks Mike and Dan, I'll experiment a bit when the weather warms.
