modifying my excal. headphone.....

I have added a 1/8 in. female plug to my excal. in order to use diferent headphones. i was suprised to find six wires! i was able to see on the origional headphones how the wiring went......... basically three wires tied together (yellow, red, white) going to one speaker other three wires to same speaker..... than two wires bridged to the other speaker (mono) does any one know why they are wired this way? (so many wires) perhaps for redundancy..... i am trying the JVC brand soft bud type phones.they insert deep into the ear. they are extremely comfortable and block just as much if not more outside noise than the origional head phones. the tones are quite diferent in sound and my volume seems a bit reduced.... but fine.. also I am guessing my battery life will increase a little as well. i just have to finish engeneering a way to keep the plug somewhat water resistant. i dont dive but i do a bit of wadeing occasionally. i recently made a straight shaft and that has helped a bit with the balance. more ergonomic.... hope to get out this weekend. i am in north florida.

Check out this link. http://www.bulgin.co.uk/Products/Buccaneer/Buccaneer.html. IP68 will give you 6' of waterproofing so I think that might work for you. Just go through the different styles they have and see what works best for you. I am not affiliated with Bulgin and I have not used their product. I have seen home made waterproof connectors made out of flexible tubing clamped to the connector bodies but it is not as nice as these would be. Good Luck.
