Modified IDX Pro Going To Australia Question.

I am in the U.S. on a one year work visa. Never used any U.S. made detectors for my main interest is gold. 2 of my co-workers use other brands and are die hard coin and what ever else comes out of the ground hunters. Back home in Mount Isa, Queensland there are countless mining camps where I know a metal detector has never worked.

I have purchased one other brand detector to take back with me and have read a great deal about the modified IDX Pro with posts by Monte & Mr Bill. My question would be: The ground where I will be working is very heavy and is there anyone on this forum who uses one where their ground is heavy and are they satisified with its performence.

I am not interested in a multi-tone or meter machine, I know the IDX has a meter but it will be taped, just looking for a beep and dig machine with decent depth. I contacted the White's dealer in Australia asking about the IDX but have yet received an answer........Thank's to all for reading my post, Skipper.

Mt Isa is the largest geographical city in the world, a bit larger then your state of Maryland with a population of about 47,000. There are mining camps dating back 150 years plus.

I wouldn't use a Classic on bad ground, it is older technology and is best for park hunting. There are only 2 filters and minerals and ground density is their weak spot. I would use a brand engineered in the country you are going to.

Hi Slipper, If i was going to use a U.S. detector i would go for a gold detector. The GMT, the LOBO ST., even the MXT would be a better pick.

Hi Skipper,

I would think that your modified IDX Pro would work fine on that ground. Just flip the toggle to Black Sand, set sens. to max,,,, disc. to min. set threshold to audible with pinpoint trigger switch pulled or locked forward and bob the coil from about 8" to 1" above ground, adjust ground balance to slightly positive as coil is approaching ground. Then release pinpoint trigger and hunt in motion disc. mode. The IDX Pro will be searching in a motion disc. mode that eccepts all metal targets, and let the shovel decide whether a target is good or not.
