modern pennies

I have been digging alot of pennies lately, today i found that the pennies i found were all reading 12fe 44co, will, my dime that i found read 12fe 44co also, now i am wondering if something is wrong. do any of your penny target reads 12-44 along with dimes reading 12-44?

Thanks for any input

Sadly Pennies are coming in all over the place from 12-36 to 12-46

It is unclear what this is about but when you hit Silver there can be a very distinct sound unlike a Penny

Good Luck and HH

I get plenty of memorial pennies dated up to 1982 that have 12/44 target ID numbers. I also find a lot of dimes, both silver and clad that show 12/44. I figure I'll just have to dig those signals because there is always a chance that it could be a silver coin. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. If I really need to tell the difference before I dig I'll just have to come up with another means to do so. Last weekend I found two silver Roosevelt dimes in the same hole with a 12/43 ID.

Happy hunting!

The copper memorials(82 and back) always hit on 12-44,43 along with clad dimes. The zincolns always around 12-37. Just depending on conditions those numbers can be way off, but when I get a 12-44 I am confident I am going to get a copper penny or clad dime. I have found silver at that number but only a few times. I do not pass any penny up as I want them out of the site so I don't have to go over them next time .

What they said just dig'em, ya never know when you might get a nice surprise in that range of numbers (gold, silver).

Exactly! There is a spot we hunt where for some reason the copper pennies often come in at 12-45 for whatever reason. One day when we first started hitting this spot we dug over 65 copper pennies!

Most of the pre-1982 Memorial Cents come in at 12-43/44; however most silver dimes can fall in that range also; although they are usually around 12-45. As an example I found my first Barber dime (1906) with the E-Trac a couple of weeks ago that read 12-44 (it was only about an inch deep). I've even found wheat cents as high as 12-44.

That is a true statement. A couple of summers ago, I was having an extremely lousy day detecting. We were hunting a grass area that had at one time been a small college ground and now is an overflow parking lot at a HS football field. Like I said, having a really bad day...........it was hot and we were beat with nothing to show for the day. I got a 12/37-39 "zinc penny" hit. I told my hunting partner, as soon as I dig this zinc lets give it up. Guess what............I cut a softball size plug and recovered a barber half, buffalo nickle, and piece of a nail.....There was not a zinc cent to be found..........So those numbers can sometimes give a pleasant surprise.
