And that don't mean it is necessarily your fault either. It is virtually impossible to compare two different detectors, when in the hands of two different people. My suggestion would be to have both of you go out hunting again. This time, instead of digging the coins, mark each location with a golf tee or something. After an hour or so, you go verify his and have him verify yours. See who has the most initial finds and if you can both confirm each others marks. The results will probably tell you more about your hunting styles and your understanding of your detector than the capabilities of each detector.
My brother and I hunt together a lot. And we are both very competitive. Some days he finds more and other days I do. We've come to realize that the one digging the most coins is the one who passed their coil over more of them. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good! HH Randy

I wholeheartely agree Randy. I took a neighbor with me to a couple of sites. He has an XLT that he's used a couple of times. We went to a field that is fairly large, and he found 4 wheaties in addition to some more modern coins. I hunted the same field and found no wheats and only a couple of modern pennies. The kicker for the whole thing is that every time he found something, he asked me to come over to tell him where to dig, because he couldnt pinpoint the target:) We were both just wandering, and he found the coins, and I didnt. On that day, he was just plain old lucky. On the other hand, I did find a nice little ring at another site, so I felt vindicated.

I have an xt30 also and if you soley rely on the digital readout #'s to determine what target to dig, you are missing alot.
Firstly, he may have just put his coil over more coins than you, but at 10-1 ratio, I think it is something else.
My brother has borrowed my xt30 a few times and constantly stares at the digital readout. If he doesn't like the #'s or if it jumps too much, he won't dig it. I tell him not to depend on the #'s as much as the sounds.
I live in Canada and our modern coins are steel core electroplated, murder to accurately detect with most discriminating detectors. But by listening to the sounds, coupled with digital readout, that machine is a coin magnet.
I imagine you friend was digging 10x's the signals you were also. How long have you had the X30? How long has you friend has his 250? Experience means alot.
Give it more time, learn what the detector is telling you, dig lots of targets noting the sounds and #'s and you will soon be doing as well as, if not better than your friend.
Good luck and HH

Ace 250 is a good machine. But here is ex sample my neighbor just dug up part of his yard.Iwent over the area with ace 250 and all three coils nothing.Pulled my mxt out went over the area with stock coil and 4x6 mini coin shooter and pulled about a 1.50 in coins dimes and Penny's area was maybe 6 x20 feet.Mxt beat the 250 don't know why.I have been metal detecting for a while and have had different machines. But i love the 250 more than my mxt.Had mxt for about 3 or 4 years.Looking at the x Terra 70 and the new SE.Just give it a chance each machine is different. One person walk through a area and think he found everything with his machine no matter which one and another guy come wright behind him and find some more coins.I say give it a few days to see if you didn't adjust something wrong or how to read the screen and listen to the sounds.Just and opinion.Good luck and good hunting

I have the X70 and an Ace 250. Owned the X70 for 2 months and the Ace for 7 months.

Using stock coils on both I do better on the 2"-4" coins with the Ace, but better on the 5"-8" with the X70. What it amounts to, I'll bet, is I'm more tuned in to the Ace; but the X70 is finding deeper than the Ace, regularly. And I expected it to, considering the price difference.

I like them both :surrender:

thanks for all the tips, you may ne right about watching the digital readouts,i only got it last week,i had the ace for about a year, i will give it more time,my bro is just getting started at it and i really didnt care to hear him braging about beating me up,mabey i will just leave him at home for awhile lol.

Goldfox, I haven't used an Ace 250 and from what my friends tell me it a good machine. I just got the X30 Wednesday and that night after just a little understanding of the machine I went out in the yard to try it. In just 45 minutes I pounded out 7 dimes, 2 nickels and 2 pennies from a site I have hunted off and on for two years.

Its hard for me to believe that the other machines didn't hit these targets. But I may have passed them because the other machines didn't ID them as good solid targets. It's hard for me to believe that the Ace 250 would pick up targets the X30 wouldn't. I have to agree with the others that your brother was just having better luck then you that day. He was swinging over more target with the coil then you were.

Don't lose any confidence in the X30s ability. This machine hit every one of the coins hard and some were 4"-5" that sounded like surface targets. I am sure you will have your day when he thinks maybe the X30 is allot better then the Ace is. In fact, let him try out the X30 and see what he thinks about its abilities. I sure love mine.

UPDATE Went out the other day and this time the X-70 was the all around winner. I had stated before that the Ace found the shallow coins better; not the case today; found 2 coins with the Ace and 8 with the X-70(from surface to 6").

I am reading what the X-70 says better all the time.

Awesome Detector, I'd say :minelab::clapping:

I dunno But it seems to me that one person finding more coins than his partner on any given day. Is hardly an indicator of which detector is best. I would think it's more of a case of happenstance.
I Would think a better indicator would be more of a side by side depth comparison. Once a fairly deep (good sounding target is located) pass both machines over it and see which gives a better or more accurate responce.
And I agree with some others about listening to the tones rather than just going by the meter. You yourself should know that when your running the ace, that your listening for the bell tone rather than staring at the meter full time, in most instances.
Just follow suit with the X 30 and I bet you'll start having much success with the XTERRA HH
