Modded Cibola or Tejon

KVM2

New member
I have a modded Vaquero (ten turn GB by Sven),and was wondering about either a Tejon, or buying a Cibola, and having the GB mod done to it..Most of my hunting is either in town (some really deep coins), and fields where depth is needed.. I like the idea of increased speed and depth not decreased.... Coils are stock, 8 inch concentric, clean sweep..Thanks for your comments in advance.

Hi,
Only if you can find a hot stock Cibola to start with cheap. Or find a good used Tejon for best performance right out of the box.
Since you have a V, would take it with you if your buying a used or new Tejon and make sure the Tejon is indeed better than your V.
Same with the Cibola, make sure it air tests the same or better than your V before mod'ing.

Or wait until Tesoro new units come out, hear there's actually two in the works.
The Golden Sabre is no longer being made, over, gone, done with.
I'm saving some money up................with high hopes.

Good luck

The Tejon is deeper than the Vaquero if you don't super tune the V, but if you super tune V it will hit on every nail in the ground.
The Tejon will run to its full depth (as deep as the V will go super tuned) and maintain its discrimination ability.

In other words,
Yes! you can super tune the Vaquero and it will go deep, but it loses most of its ability to discriminate past its normal depth not super tuned.

You can't super tune a Tejon, so it just does what it does out to its full range.

Now, for relic hunting this doesn't amount to much difference, but for deep coin hunting your just screwed.

I should have proof read my post better, sorry about that.

I had A Vaquero just before I got my Tejon, the "V" was nice but for me and trying to reach those 7" to 8" deep coins it wasn't happening, so I traded it for a Tejon.
Now, the Tejon's worse problem for me is the tiny stuff that it will hit on that other detectors just go right past, some stuff is so small that it won't set off the pro-pointer unless you touch it right on the probes shaft, it amazing.

Interestingly, I find both the V and T lose depth as the discrimination rises. The Compadre does not. Could this be the result of the high gain H.O.T. machines? Does the Outlaw lose much depth as the discrimination is cranked up?

My Tejon holds up pretty good up to the screw cap range before much depth is lost. (Screw caps disc is pretty much max for me on the Tejon)
When I was talking about the depth and discrimination I was just talking about running them just above small iron and the "V" when super tuned loses its ability to disc out Iron at all when its deep, it will still disc it out if the iron is more shallow.

Dan I think they all do, at least all the ones Ive ever used and Ive used my share of them. They might still go deep in a higher disc setting but any machine Ive ever used that had an all metal mode and a disc mode, the all metal was always deeper. You may not notice it on some targets but the deepest ones you surely will.

My Outlaw and Silver do not lose much depth when going from low to high discrimination, but they both lose depth going from AM to disc. of any setting.

Thanks for all the information. I'm too old to go playing games trying to decide what is hot, and what is not. I'll hang in and see what Tesoro may offer in the coming months...If nothing, I'll pick up a Tejon and see how it compares to Jabbo's Fisher this Spring..I got away from all metal in favor of discrimination...I think that I may also buy a Cibola, Otter box it and go stream wading...For relics, that is the last frontier.

What kind of Fisher does "Jabbo" have? I may be able help you with the comparison?

I believe Dave is using a Coinstrike..We went to a 1700,s house outside of Millstone..Didn't find anything old, but the one nickle I found(with the Vaquero) was at 7 inches..Soil formation was fantastic. One of the reasons I want depth is all the excavation being done around old houses..
