Mod to Excal Blue Headphones for CTX

I spend a lot of time in the water and a fairly large part underwater (snorkel) when I detect. Headphones have been a problem for me with the CTX. I have owned the GG Underwater headphones and have gone through 2 pair of Amphibians (modified for the CTX w/connector). The GG Underwaters, I sold after using one time, volume wasn't any better than the Amphibians. The Amphibians unfortunately die after being submerged to many times, I have even gone as far as to add additional silicone sealant to anywhere inside the phones that I thought water could intrude and again, the most recent set has started to fail.....volume is decreasing and one earpiece is now not working. So, since I had modified my Excal Blue with the OBN end cap mod with the CTX connector I decided to use my blue headphones and mod them to the CTX.... the blue headphones (in my opinion) are the best sounding stock headphones I have owned....first move was the connector and then try the phones out..it was a windy, wavy hunt and they worked great with the exception of ambient noise......so the next move was the headphone mod, now completed and you can tell immediately the decrease of ambient noise due to the headphones and foam inside the cups... testing will be in a few hours while the wind is still blowing hard.
One thing I did was not to remove all the foam in the new headphones, as found the foam may have been too thick to install the Piezos so I decided to slice the foam in half which worked well and easily allowed the installation of the Piezos. I don't plan on using these underwater yet though since the foam is not closed cell foam and IMO will hold water and start to smell over time.....I will add closed cell foam when I can find what I need later....then these will become my go to headphones.... I bought a pair of Koss Yellow's as insurance and can use them as my underwater headphones until I find the closed cell foam.

Thanks to all the pioneers on detector mods .....couldn't have done it without you, your videos posts and emails are a great help.

Cliff you Pirate...Looks good buddy. for the insulation I use the closed cell insulation for pipes in the plumbing section of lowes..

Skullies in MSA shells for the CTX

Good idea, quite the same as the closed cell floatie noodles I believe......I've got lots of noodle pieces around here!

Yes, want me to send you a couple, they rock on the CTX, N/C ...................I had to lower the volume to 11 on the machine (first land hunt)...but the problem is I'm trying to come up with HP's that are more aero dynamic, more to where the wind does not make noise from the cups....The Peltors with the Gels rock but the cups stick out and with hi winds can really affect the Ambient noise levels.

PM your address, you can test them...N/C

Now the blues work good on the CTX as far as audio and tones. I found the GGA's and GGUW's lack the kick.

PM with address sent.....as for the blues, tonal quality is great, volume is about what the GGA's and GGUW's have.....a bit wimpy in my opinion but with the better headset (mod), makes it a bit better than the blue headset.
