Minnesotan here have been detecting for 3 years with my ace 250 looking to upgrade. Mostly hunt in my area coins and jewelery but also do some prospecting out west a few times a year. Im looking at the exterra 70 Iv read a lot of good reviews but most are older just wondering if there is something newer or better for the same price range. Im looking at the pro with both coils. also wondering if I will notice the difference as an upgrade for the money?? I keep reading but seem to get more confused lol for now im just couped up cause its darn cold out there just chompin at the bit to get out again and considering a road trip to warmer area soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you and have a great Christmas Don

Welcome. I've never used the Ace 250 so I can't comment on it. However, you state that most of the X-70 reviews are older ones. I don't know about that, but that doesn't mean the X-70 is no longer any good. I used an MXT for years and finally upgraded to the X-70. My only complaint is I should have done it sooner. The X-70 is light and it goes pretty deep. The learning curve is, I think, pretty short. The interchangeable coils and the tones did it for me. Ohhh...The sweet sound it makes when you hit a dime or quarter. Good Luck.

thanks for the reply and i guess i should have been more specific not all the reviews are old i just notice some newer machines that have come out since and wondering if its worth the wait for something newer

hi i bought the 70 pro pack last summer. its a very good detector. easy to operate. you wont beat it for the price. frank barnett. ps iam going to arizona nugget hunting in the spring. wish me luck .

Ive got an ace 250 and rarley used it but wife bought me a xterra 70 recently and needles to say a, m rapt and hooked , The xterra is worth every cent especially if you intend hitting the goldfields.

I originally had a White Coinmaster 5500d for years. Last spring my wife somehow let me get the Xterra 70. My old machine did a good job, but wow! I will never look back.
I have gone over some of my old areas that I have hunted out with my old machine and it was like I have never been there before. If someone tells me that they have hunted an area with an X70, I'm going somewhere else.

thanks for all the replies I have made up my mind and am planning on buying the exterra cant wait its not the time of year here in mn to hunt but it will give me some time to play indoors with the machine so im a little more prepeared when it comes time hope all had a merry christmas and a happy hunting new year

With all the metal in a house nails, electrical wiring. Tape some ribbon to a nail, penny, nickle ,dime, quarter, tab, tin foil, and piece of tin. Throw them in the yard in the snow and run out and have fun until hands get cold and then go back in the house and have a coup of hot chocolate then wait and see how long it takes for spring to come. The latter will be the hardest part!.
Happy Holiday!.
