I had stumbled onto a small out of the way park late last year but never got around to checking it. A week ago I decided to try it out. When I got there
I noticed that the 1870's-1880's Victorian house that ajoined the park property was being renovated. I asked permission to scan the small piece of property
and was granted by the contractor. I didn't have a whole lot of time so I mostly scanned for deepies. I got some decent shallow hits but they all turned out to
be clad dimes in the turf - so I just concentrated on deeper targets. I found a few scattered wheats and a liberty nickel. Also found a small spill: four wheats, two
memorials and a 1946 Rosie.
Sunday my hunting buddy called and said he had about an hour or so to swing it before work. I was tied up and since he lived fairly close to the area, I told him he
should check out that house. WELL, after about ten minutes there he pops up a SEATED DIME from about 1+1/2 inched down !!! An 1877 CC !!! I might have even
passed over it the week before. It was shallow and had a rusty nail about an inch under it.
Well, you never know! I'm just as happy though, a seated dime has been on his wish list since we started hunting together about 3+ years ago. It was fun to know
how thrilled he was to find it. (very nice condition too!)
Never assume - especially on private land !!
