Mirage pulse induction in action

kaolinwasher

Well-known member
Just learning this fine detector , to my surprise i found a dime , seems like the mirage makes the longer drawn out sound on Iron , and is not overly sensitive on Iron , but it really like gold like the tesoro machines,

very cool, I have never heard a pulse induction at work

I like the ticking sound , the human ear is very good at hearing the change, and it just slices thru this mineralized sand, with no loss of depth. my VLF machines all would lose depth in this sand , if operating in disc.

That coil is giving off heat waves. Nice unit you have there kao,... best of luck with it.

That Mirage PI is smoking hot, really nice detector you have there Gunnar:thumbup:

thanks guys I really do like this machine, just tested it on some really nasty basalt stones, and it was making sound on three of them and i found with just a bit of adjustment they went quite, but I could hit a nickel under them with a resoundingly great signal , it just amazes me how it can do that , yes it is a fun machine , to me its like having one of the few strativarious violins, its really going to count in the kind of ground that stops VLF,s but is still fun if the ground is not mineralized ,

Sven does some great work doesn't he?...his website is pretty neat also! thanks for the video kaolinwasher, and I hope you enjoy that magnificent detector!

ICURABEACHGY yes he does do great work- I am just surprised that no manufacturers make something like this , but then VLF machine are the big sellers, and i suppose like the Isalnd of misfit toys no one wants a mirage P,I

People asked for an update and I mentioned that I tried to get one from the lawyer. No need to get upset and kill the thread.

Nice detector Gunnar. Too bad it wasn't another seated dime and nice work on the external speaker setup. Try hunting the tributary streams in your area maybe you can find some gold! Best of luck in 2014! - Jimmy

Now that the weather is breaking, can get out with mine.
Going to try the new small oval 4x7 coil this afternoon for the first time.
Decided to do a slight mod to the twin of yours and see how much of an improvement it will make.
Finish it up and take it for a test run.

let us know how the 4x7 works, also i got out tonight in the driveway. with the power line under it and it ran really quite even at 7 gain found a button and some small lead & a few nails learning what small Iron sounds like to on the surface found if its surface you can turn the coil on edge and pinpoint spot on if in doubt

let us know how the 4x7 works,

Took the PI out again for field testing the 4x7 oval mono coil. Had to drive around for a spot to hunt since most places
were still saturated with water right at the surface. Ended up back at a schoolyard right next to some high tension power lines.
My PI had no problems hunting along side them.
The 4x7" coil works pretty good, depth wise as good as the 5" round search coil.
Dug as many target I could in in 2 1/2 hours. About all I could take still being sore from
the previous day.
Started off with the first three targets being coins. Followed by about 5 more before my first piece of junk.
No Loons or Toons, mostly dimes and nickels, some quarters and pennies. Lots of coins were on edge. Amazed how many dimes
and nickels were on edge. Almost gave up on one target, about 5", kind of mucky at that depth in one area. Turned out to be a quarter

Kind of interesting target responses with this coil. Shallow 1-2" coins gave the normal crisp tight high pitched sound, 3-5" coins gave off
a broken creaky door sound, anything deeper gave off a clean slight speed up of the threshold. Found the coil a bit harder to pinpoint than the round coils.

After getting home felt like a 97 year old man after this hunt, sore all over. That's what I get for being off work for 3 months, slaving over a workbench and sitting behind the computer.
Need some more detectowcise.

sven thanks for the report, you are right about the mirage being well behaved around power lines, I have had no problems yet , today the battery finally ran down and it was maing all kinds of funny sounds, I figured the battery was just about run down so its charging for the 1st time Do you find the 4x7 has better coverage, ? it should get a bit more depth whear did you run the pulse delay?

That's what it will do when it needs recharging. A couple years ago mine did the same thing, thought something came lose inside or something else happened. Then realized it was a low battery.

Here's the thing about the PI mono coils. The 4x7 is basically a round 5" coil squeezed into an oval. Built on an oval form based upon the the 5" specs. So there will be no difference in depth performance. Just the search pattern is different. A cross between a DD and concentric. It also tends to squeeze the signal so to speak from what I can tell. It ran better at 100% Gain, 90% SAT, Threshold 1 tic every two-three seconds, almost silent hunting. If your hunting shallow targets with any of the coils, you can run threshold almost silent. Try it.

I made a larger oval the year before last. It seemed to work almost identical to the 7" round. Found that the oval as they smaller or less width in the oval, the signals are not as nice. A 5x7 might be a better size. Think we came to the conclusion that the best PI "mono" coil is round. Since you rec'd the only small Delta shaped coil I made, its up to you to give a field test on that guy. The 7" round is the best all purpose coil, I use it the most. Will be using the 5" more often when I don't need to go deeper than 6", depth of it is very close to the 7". Takes a bit of getting used to the small size.

For most of my hunting I always run the Gain 75%, SAT at 75% Pulse Delay at about .5 (roughly 12us) to get the best depth on thin gold rings and the larger gold rings. If you want better depth on the larger gold rings, set the delay at 1-2

@Sven,so a 5'' Mono coil wont go any deeper than 6'' ??? or is that just a rough estimate,my next coil up in my collection is the 8'' Garrett Seahunterr coil.Looking forward to getting a small 5'' coil.

Rick,
Yes it will.
Using the 7" search coil
Fish scale(1/2 dime)----------7-8"
Sterling ring----------------------7-8"
10k ladies ring-------------------7-8"
14kt man's wedding band---10-11"

The 5" coil gets almost the same depth on the Mirage as when using the 7" coil.
Maybe 1-2" less depending upon the target. It will be interesting to see how it performs on your CrossBow after
George sets it up.

@Sven,must admit i am really looking foward to using it myself, especially as i really wanted it for using in between the stubble when the crops come off,i have one specific site that has a roman trading villa on it,what is unusual about this site is the ground is so mineralized it is about as bad as what it can get and normal VLF machines just dont perform very well if at all.

Also the fact that usually we only go on this site when the crop has just been harvested so not only do we have problems with bad soil but also fresh new stubble which is a righ pain in the rear to get a coil close too the ground.

So entry the small 5'' coil on the Crossbow Pulse,at least it will be able to get down to possibly get some more roman bronze and silver coins that have kept coming up over the past few years.Me reckons this could well be a winning combination :canadaflag: :ukflag:

Sven,i forgot too ask, using the small coil am i right in saying that i should not have as much problem with iron as say a big coil and also the pinpointing should be spot on i would have thought ???
