Mirage P.I makes a B line to the trashy spot

Got out for the 1st time this year to a bonafied park , and i took the Mirage to the sliding hill 1st and dug no foil , just a few nails and nick nacks, I had the pulse delay @2 to ignore most foil, then headed to the wood chip lot , and found a dime & quarter I tell you it had good depth 5" and i could get very close to the metal poles and found some coin, i can get about 6" from the metal poles with the 5" coil that i was using , not quite as good as the compadre, compadre rules in that situation, then i made a B line to the trashiest part by the parking lot and proceeded to dig lots of zinc pennys and only significant sized items some got down easy to 4" + love the audio on this thing you can tell deep vs shallow targets really well , as you see I only found 4 heavy foils and the ground was in some spots glittering with the junk foils lots of bottle caps but hey they are maskers so i dig them , this spot was so target rich that i just inched forward on my knees digging the next target very light to swing this baby love it & had a good time - I did find a unburied new cigaret pack that set it off so apparently new oaks set it off at 2 pulse delay no rings but i know it will hit them . this is a very cool machine and i did dig a pill foil cap the square one still has a pill in it it was on the suface but that was the extent of it . only 4 foils thats not badd digging with a P,I machine

Good show, see you found a couple batteries. My day is never complete without finding at least one battery.
Try drop[ping tour Pulse delay down to .5 or 1 and go hunt. Those are the prime numbers for best all around hunting
when it comes to gold. You start to lose some depth to the thin rings at 2. Two puts it on par with the Surfmaster PI for gold sensitivity.
.5 gets you down to almost 10us. And at this setting will still miss the tiny foil and you will probably get less zinc pennies as well.

The longer you use it the deeper the coin targets you'll find, takes just a bit of time to train the brain to deeper target sounds.
It sure feels good not having to dig the very tiny foil................

Happy hunting

sven I will give that setting a try nextime out . this is a great machine ,

Gunnar,
Glad you were able to take a trip off the farm and put your new machine to the test. Keep up the good work and I really enjoy your testing.

Sven,
what do the "deeper" coins sound like and what should one be listening for to distinguish deeper targets compared to a shallow one? I have listened to Gunnar's PI machine and sounds like a sick duck lol pretty cool audio though. Does the audio become "weaker" (proportional) with deeper targets? For instance, the audio on the AT Pro (when it came to the deeper coins 5-6" in depth), the sound was the same but was "softer" compared to a target that was an inch or two deep. Then again, I have top end hearing loss (high pitch) so I perceive sounds differently. A coin that was 7-8" deep (using the AT Pro) I wouldn't even hear it. Thanks - Jim

The deeper targets will slightly speed up the threshold tick-tick with no audio frequency change. For the most part your threshold just ticks away at about 1 tick a second. Near Surface targets will speed up the threshold super fast with a high squeal sound.
As the lets say coin gets deeper, the squeal will get lower in pitch. Some mid depth targets will louder speed of the threshold with a fuzzy erratic sound. Then comes the deeper targets that will just change the speed of the threshold. Copper pennies give a certain soft mixed sound, hard to describe. After you listen to the threshold for 5 hours using headphones, you start to hear differences. The Mirage has VCO audio. If you have ever used a BFO, it's similar sound

Thank you Sven. I have used detectors with VCO audio so I now have a better understanding of how this detector's audio works. - Jim

Jimmy I have had the Aflack duck approach me on several occasions it fools him every time ha ha

LOL You nailed it! The Aflac duck LOL Hope you are enjoying quality time with your new PI as it is definitely a neat detector! How about a new video with the PI down on the farm?
