Minnesota Seated....

Hello All,

Have not been doing much detecting this year. This is the first photo-worthy coin of the year.

I've been doing some plumbing work at our cabin up North in MN. As usual anything that could go wrong did go wrong, and a hardware store run is 70 miles. On my second of three such trips in a 24 hours I saw some construction being done. LOTS of dirt removed and in a nice old neighborhood. I saw they had started this months ago and much of the work had been finished. Kind of figured the James(ND) gang or other locals had hit this hard. And they probably had, as signals were almost non-existent. But.... Did get one diggable signal and found a clump of dirt with a pretty silver rim protruding. Was thinking Roosie because of the depth, surprised to see the reverse, and then thought Barber, and even more surprised to see it was a seated. 1876-S..

That stirred my interest and hunted a bit longer but with nothing else to show for my efforts.

So that is first seated for the 2011. Only been out a dozen or so times thus far.

I'm checking my records and found I lied. I had this day that was pic worthy in April. Drove by a church that looked interesting. Stopped at adjacent house and asked if they knew who owned the church building. They did and permission secured. Wasn't finding much at all until I hit a patch out towards the road and did this.

Guessing this place had been hit hard by someone(s) with nickels discriminated out. Have to wonder how much silver and wheats were removed.

I'm back in Wisconsin again and time to get me an LC. Might drive around and see what the construction situation is.
