Minie Ball Question

Tyler

New member
I just found my first civil war bullet today! Online I saw a display that showed a U.S. and C.S. minie bullet. The U.S. one had 3 rings, while the C.S. one had 2. Was there a difference in design between the two sides? And if so, how reliable is it that I have a U.S. minie ball. (It has 3 rings).

to bullet books. I believe David at Dixie detectors carries the Mason & Mc Kee book. Link is at top of page. You can go to this site and compare your bullet and also look at a bunch of varieties and prices. www.relicman.com Hope this helps some.

Just try and post a couple of photos or PM me with them and I'll help you identify it. Oh, for photographing it, one trick, if you don't have a macro setting is to put a magnifying glass in front of it and then photograph the image on the magnifying glass. You need a full length shot and a shot of the base (pointed at the camera).

Hey Tyler, either way, congrats on the first!

Richard
