I found one of these before and must have tossed it. Now wondering what it is. Not much weight to it. Maybe the round ends are hollow. Any ideas?

Sent email as far maybe tongue piercing barbell...but got thinking they are probaly made of stainless steel.so not sure:shrug:

People with alot of piercings live a little more dangerously than you and I Bruce.

With the slight curve to it, I would say belly button ring. Most tongue barbells (actually called that) are straight.

Hi bruce01364, I found one of these puzzling blighters here in the UK about 30 years ago, i do not believe it to be any item of jewelry! my example looks to be in slighly different proportion to yours, but would imagine its purpose to be the same. The dimensions of my example are :- total length 37mm, the spheres are 8mm diameter, distance between spheres is 21mm and the bar joining the 2 spheres is approx 1.50mm. There is still some evidence of gilding on it, i have always believed it to be a part of a clock mechanism or maybe something much simpler, but not jewelry. I will be happy to post a photo as soon as i can if you like.
Marty.

Hi Marty224, would like to see your picture just out of curiosity. I think metal for body piercing would be made of a less corrosive metal. If it was used for that purpose then the person is better off losing it. :)

I am not saying that there isn't something else. Here is a pic of what I was talking about.

Hi turtlefoot, yes, it was also my first thought when I found it. Very common shape for piercings. Could even have been straight at one time for tongue, nipple etc. I could be wrong but I believe that leagally, metal that will corrode can't be used for piercing. So I posted the pic. Although, an unscrupulous person just out for a buck could have used a cheap metal for piercing. Since most replies suggest it's piercing jewlery I'll go with that unless someone can prove otherwise.
Thanks all.

My friend's little sister used to get infections all of the time when she bought belly button "rings" for $2.00 or less at flea markets because of the cheap metal. When she started buying surgical steel, sterling and hypo-allergenic metals, the infections stopped. I am guessing that there are a lot of bad/cheap metal "rings" out there.
