MINI BALLS

Ward

New member
What should I adjust on my unit to be able to hear lead with a better tone, and at depth, without sacrificing Brass and other metals ?

I guess I don't know what you mean by a better tone. Something other than the standard Tone ID? I hunted lead balls of all sizes at a Civil War site with no problems using the Hi-pro program, Tone ID on. You will get the same tones with the Relic program unless you change them to some other tone that you like better.

The right answer is to bury a mini ball at depth and make adjustments until you get the best results you want. Mini balls might come in the 50's VDI range. So the answer might be hunt in single 7.5 but that won't be always true. When someone gives you a specific answer, remember it is what works for them in their soil. This might be entirely wrong for you.

Now get out and hunt with these settings and when you find a naturally deep target ( you didn't bury it) fine tune your adjustments.

Lets say you wanted to know what an Indian head penny next to a nail sounded like and what VDI it might read. How would be a way to find out? Maybe it might be to bury the penny and nail and then sweep the coil over them and see the results.

in my area big lead is no problem, given i have no civil war relics ,deep 8+ musket balls hit jumpy at about +10 to +60 or so on 7.5 in 3 frequency so single 7.5 should be the way to go for lead.

Yep and that is true for you in your soil. But what would they read for me in Illinois. That's why I would put one in the ground and at least get some ball park numbers. Of course if I was relic hunting I'd probably dig all positive numbers anyway.

yes sir dig all positives in a low trash area, best way to go ,i find lots of deep lead even though i dont really want to , old stuff is cool to me no matter what it is.
