In my neck of the woods, the old timers sometimes mined coal out of the side of the hill. You just started digging into the side of the hill where coal was.
I went to a dig on my land today and nosed around with my CXIII.
Mostly running in non motion all metal with depth at 8.5.
I found an 11 inch chisel down at 12 1/2 inches.
A couple of chains at about 3 inches and an auger half sticking out of the ground at the edge of the dig trench.
I also found a Boyds zinc mason jar lid at 6 1/2" with the porcelain still intact.
No lunch money though...
