It looks like a patch of black sand to me too.I believe they call that black sand (highly mineralized)
I don't know any detectors that can handle it?
I agree it does look like black sand and all VLF machines will have trouble. However, a PI machine would come in handy in this situation. It looks like a patch of black sand to me too.
I agree with Robert if that is what it is.
Looks like only a small area effected… move to another area.
I love that sea wall, targets will be close to it.Anyone ever have this happen? My sand is seriously mineralized and it will show the overload symbol here’s a picture of a beach I hunt this was after the big Nor’easter we just had .

Mark what machine are you using ?Anyone ever have this happen? My sand is seriously mineralized and it will show the overload symbol here’s a picture of a beach I hunt this was after the big Nor’easter we just had .

ShootI use my equinox on the beaches of Cape Cod haven't had any overload issues. Did your machine work afterwards. I have had coils go bad and they would overload. Not on the equinox , but on two other machines I owned. I usually bring the Safari as a back up, just in case something happens. I have had equinox and Safari overload on big buried iron (water runoff pipes) that I occasionally encounter on salt water beaches. Hope your issue is resolved.. HH
Thanks im using equinox 800 I usually do turn down sensitivity and that works I’m in Ct I can still detect it usually the coins are all over this sand it’s my favorite spot to detect..Mark what machine are you using ?
Shoot
I'd be panning that.
See if there's any precious metals in it.
Carolina's ? NH, Vermont.
In the gold belt.
We have a similar beach here.
See mineralization at 94%-98%.
Fairport Harbor Ohio.
One of the first shipping ports on Lake Erie.
Wooden dock with two rail lines on it.
Almost a mile long.
Major Iron ore shipping. Over 100 yrs.
There's so much black sands and nails.
You'd think you're were in Nome Alaska.
Pilings still visible on a clear water day.
Only two of my machines run any depth their.
Sovereign GT being the killer.
And the Explorers.
The Tesoro Mojave as well.
Smooth but not as deep.
The Equinox should run well there.
Actually any multi frequency will.
Large coils usually ignore it as well.
At least on my multi freq machines.
Try turning your sensitivity down a bit.
Crank up the iron discrimination.
May be some goodies there just for that reason.
Others couldn't run their machines either.
Like pull tab city locations.
People get frustrated and walk away.
Play with your settings.
Find something that works
Listen for the Deep whispers.
Good Luck
YesWe have black sand in place here Mark but no overload signals.
Ground balance
single frequency
sensitivity
other modes
All things to try
Black sand is basically impenetrable just like coke,
HH Jeff
Increase Recovery speed to 7 or 8 in black sand helps me more then reducing sensitivity.Yes
Turn sensitivity Down.
Then Ground Balance.
Work sensitivity back up as you go.
Keep it stable.
No this is where most of my good finds come from I can make the nox work just fine in these areas usually I've found a seated dime and barbers mercury dimes sometimes on the surface in these areas! It looks like a patch of black sand to me too.
I agree with Robert if that is what it is.

Yep I will run in 7 for recovery usually the coins in these areas are only inches down or I see them on the surface!Increase Recovery speed to 7 or 8 in black sand helps me more then reducing sensitivity.
On previous hunts there that black sand was there? No this is where most of my good finds come from I can make the nox work just fine in these areas usually I've found a seated dime and barbers mercury dimes sometimes on the surface in these areas!

Yea but they push the beach sand up against the wall before the storm but the black sand is usually very deep and underneath it it’s like packed mud!On previous hunts there that black sand was there?
