Minelabs answer to the Garret ATX??

Fire Fighter 43

I just noticed this ad in the January 14 issue of Lost Treasure Magazine. Any thoughts? Could it be Minelabs answer to the ATX?

I also noticed the ad in Lost Treasure about the Minelab machine. Sounds good. You can put it in a backpack. I do not think Minelab is answering the Garrett machine. Garrett and Minelab are the only two companies in the last couple of years to offer anything to the consumer. Garrett with the AT's and Minelab with the CTX. Tesoro has also released a few new machines. Bells and whistles more than technology but never the less something new. I bought a G-2 a few years back when they first came out. That machine was designed for gold but turned out to be a very good coin and relic machine. Hopefully the new ML machine will be multi-talented also with depth and a more moderate price tag. First Texas is supposed to be working on a new machine or so I have read. I like those too. HH :minelab::fisher::teknetics::detecting:

"The first real compact mid range gold detector is coming"...Lol

Minelab might get sued for lying cause it is the second one...but the difference is the ATX is a high end PI detector. The Infinium or TDI standard is a mid level detector.
Of course I will prob get one just to check it out...

Well I like their detectors---hate their prices, kinda criminal if you ask me. I own a few Minelabs so I should stop bitching about them...just wish I had my mney back for most of them, Lol

Its all good man...

Am I the only one thinking this will be another edition of the Garrett Propointer VS. Minelab Profind all over again? I can see it now, ATX VS. LXT!!! And a similar design!!! We shall see though, maybe this new md won't look similar to the ATX, but then again.....

As you can see from the ad..."is coming...".

Marketing ploy 101 - keep the consumer from spending their money on the competitor's product that has already been introduced.

"is coming..." can mean 3 months...6 months...who knows? They really should do the right thing and suggest a potential date of introduction.

For North America, the early announcement is an obvious marketing ploy. The real market they are going after is Africa. Minelab's huge profits in 2012 and 2013 came mostly from the gold rush in Africa. Here are ML's most important customers and for them a cheaper, rugged detector, powered by ordinary batteries (they often have no way to recharge fancy ones) will be very attractive.

Here's a photo of the target customers for these new detectors. Also a graphic showing how much ML has invested in distribution and support infrastructure in the new Gold Rush.

- "The First Real Compact Mid-Range Detector"?
- "From The Company That Knows Gold"?

Wow, I can see they haven't changed much back when I owned my MLs, a bit arrogant to think they are the "Holly Grail" of metal detectors as their ad perceives them to be on something that hasn't even come out to the public yet with the company they keep (other companies that make gold detectors).

I think they have been riding on the Coat Tails of their GPX 5000 (gold prospecting machine) a bit to long and now their playing Catch Up.

Yeh, definitely "Asleep At The Switch On This One".

Just my personal views/comments on the subject.

:)

I was thinking the same thing Roscue2...

Hey Andyfreeze. You have 20 posts all about the same detector and same dealer in Canada. This dealer better be a sponsor on the this forum or you can say good-bye to your posts and and your membership. I advise you to knock it off. If the Guv wasn't too busy eating turkey you would already be gone.

Hey their is nothing wrong with some competition and sells stratagy, but kat is right its the second in my eyes on the market. LOL But just my 2 censt its like comparing fords and Chevys. Or Honda's and Toyotas. Its just business and its the way it is. :nopity:

If you decide to do some comparison tests with the ATX/F3 Compact, maybe a friendly word of advice, carry some Buzzard Spray this time, They didn't leave much meat on the bones from the last attack, hehe.

Seriously, though, I think it would be great to see how each one performs in the same environment (If/when the F3 Compact ever does come out).

:)

Yes I think I might do one...would like to see that new Minelab.

From the Minelab site:

"The SDC 2300 gold detector performance is above the X-TERRA 705 and Eureka Gold and below the GPX Series. This detector offers an entry to Minelab

Just a curious thought here though.

I don't really get where this machine fits performance wise in the scheme of things if it does come out. The ATX is just a couple of inches shorter in depth than the 5000 with the recent 5.4 oz nugget BK just demonstrated for us in his last video (and the ATX was Balanced).

I guess maybe the question that should be asked here is, How is this machine (SDC2300) going to compete in the market place with performance specs. that the ATX has? That's a very "tight" margin for that SDC2300 to fit into between the ATX and 5000 in order for it to be competitive with the ATX and even then if it was, how would Minelab justify the (rumored) $3500 for it with very little more to offer performance wise.

Personally speaking here, I just can't see this machine happening in a successful way without undermining the 5000 all together performance wise to make this machine attractive enough for people to buy.

Maybe I'm missing something here all together (wouldn't be the first time, hehe).

:)

I was thinking the same thing...I would like to have one, but the coil selection (one?) is kinda weird...so if thats all I would get for $3500 then it would be hard for me to pull the trigger on one. If the 8" coil is all that comes on the SDc 2300, well I have one on my ATX already. Time will tell when we get more info about the new ML.

I think SDC can use all the rest minelab Pi coils, just with different lower shaft, coil cable and connector.

I doubt seriously that the SDC will use any of the normal Minelab Coils. My basis for this belief is Minelab's announcement itself - here are the list of features for each type of detector notice what it says about Coils. "One coil" for SDC "large coil range" for SDC.

Here's Minelab's problem

Some very good points brought up their lytle78, thanks.

I think MineLab is going to get a Dose of reality if they think their going to try selling this machine at a higher price than the ATX. To my understanding, MineLab is bringing this machine out to compete with the ATX, and from the great videos I have seen from BearKat, Warren and others so far, the ATX will find small, medium, and large pieces of gold on one setting at good depths. How is MineLab going to address those ATX features in the SDC2300 without undermining the 5000 all toghether? They can't (personally speaking of course).

I think at this point, we will have to wait (for another month) and see what MineLab will announce at the end of January.

:)
