Minelab xterrra 70 vs whites xlt

I am thinking about getting a x terra 70 or whites xlt. What are differnces, advantages, etc. Which do you think is better?

I have owned and used both. Their both darn good machines. Each has it's own"Better than the other features". It will boil down to which one you like better.
XLT in "My" area was more stable. Id was better. Xterra was deeper in my area.Xterra seemed a little less able to take a beating than the XLT..I liked the ability of all the adjustments on the XLt. I liked the features for the beach on the Xterra. One feature that annoyed me on the Xterra it always fell over when I sat it down to dig..I hate that. XLt was almost fall over proof.I liked the digital read out on depth on the XLT better. I liked big screen (#) on the Xterra 70. See what I mean.It will depend on which you like. Oh yea..I liked the four batteries better on the xterra versus the eight batteries on the XLT...

But let me stress this both works well.Either detector is a keeper.

I would add two other points -- Xterra is lighter than the XLT. So if you have arthritis (like me -- rheumatoid arthritis that is) then a lighter machine is important. Or, if you want to swing the thing all day long, a few ounces add up to a lot over that time.

Second point -- notch discrimination. You can shut down a notch for a specific VID and detect all around it (say you don't want to detect those pull tabs at a VID of 18, you could reject that number and you would just get a blip when you find one rather than a full tone. I don't know if the XLT can do that or not.

Weight and tones for me were the factors to get an X-70. Which is better?? Each machine in the hands of experienced users are very good. I had an MXT for 5 years and really liked it but, the desire to have tones finally won over.

Hi. I've used both and like both. If i had to pick between the two, it would be the X-70 more bang 4 the bucks.

Thank you for the replies. I own a xlt and its good like you all said. I got a xterra 70 coming in the mail, that I made a trade fom a fellow treasure hunter dan on line. Looking forward to using it. Gonna have to wait, snow in ohio. Will let you all know, how it goes!:twodetecting::minelab:

Well congrats on the X-Terra. I really think you will enjoy it. Good luck to you with it, Beale.

Greetings,

I too have used both and as said they are both excellent machines. The Xterra 70 has a hotter prospecting mode than the XLT or the MXT for that matter. It will find smaller pieces of gold than either the XLT or the MXT. You would have to go to the White GMT to compete with the Xterra 70 if you like prospecting. I too really like the lighter weight of the Xterra 70 and it breaks down into a smaller package making it easier to store in the limited space of my motor home. I sold my XLT and bought the Xterra 70 because of the weight and the excellent prospecting mode it has. I haven't been sorry.

God Bless and HH

I have both machines but have not used the XLT since I bought the XT70, 2 years ago. The XT70 is lighter and gets a little more depth with the 10.5" coil and it is a DD that I use. I also have a 12" Hot Shot coil on the XLT. HH, Mike
