MINELAB X30 NEED ADVICE BADLY

Here's the story. I'm a 76 year old (young) Canadian boy. Just got back into this great hobby after a 25 year absense. I bought an ACE 250 and altho it seems like a great LITTLE machine I feel I want something better. I'm looking at the X30, Question is, "is it $250.00 better than the Ace 250"???? I would have liked the X70 but momma won't kick in the extra loot.

In my opinion it is well worth the extra cost just for the large LCD display. It is wonderful to be able to see what is being displayed! Ok God Bless and happy hunting.

I would stay with the Ace 250 and buy an extra coil, the larger coil or the smaller coil or both! That Ace packs a lot of good technology, just does not get as deep as the high dollar detectors. A friend uses an Ace and I was using a White's XLT, he found the same coins and relics as I did but I could get deeper targets. My X-Terra 70 goes deeper than my XLT and seems to be more accurate on IDing targets. If you upgrade, think about this, do you really want to dig a 12"-18" hole for a bottle cap and an occasional coin or relic? I would buy a new coil or both coils with coil covers and a pinpointer, would be cheaper with all those accessories than buying a new detector to learn. Learn your machine, it takes many hours. The Minelab detectors are nice machines and they get some good depth and target separation, that Ace would make a nice backup detector to the XT30. HH and good luck on your choice, Mike

G'day tucker31.
I own both these machines.
If you buy the X-Terra 30 thirty after having used the Ace, you are going to be disappointed. Both these machines are similar to each other in a lot of ways. Yes you do get a nicer looking display a nicer sounding detector, an easier to learn pinpoint and maybe an inch or so more depth with the X-Terra, but that's about it. The Ace gets a bit better ground coverage, it absolutely kills the X-Terra at getting in close to metal objects (Which increases your finds by about 25% in these areas) and once you learn both pinpoint procedures, it has a more accurate pinpoint as well as giving you good target information. I have currently put my X-Terra away for now, as it just can't keep up with the Ace.If the shoe was on the other foot, and you owned the X-Terra first, I'd suggest buying the 10in round DD coil and the small coil if they ever make one, as this would restore some of the differences between these 2 detectors.
If you are really after a better machine, Then I'd personally save all those loonies and toonies you'll find with the ACE and buy a second hand Explorer, because it's going to take something that good to be significantly better than what you already have. Those coins will add up fairy quickly and give you a good goal to aim for while your detecting (kinda spices up reasons (excuses) to sneak out and hunt:poke:).
Just my thought on it.
Mick Evans.
P.S. No offence fellas. I didn't start this thread, just answering it!

Hey MIKE, ya convinced me, I'm gonna stay with the 250 and buy me a sniper coil. Dang, I just can't justify spending $150.00 more for (maybe) a slightly beter machine, thanks for your input.

and a fair judgement on the machines! I do not care what machine anyone uses, detecting is all good stuff with whatever detector one uses. HH, Mike

Ok I have used both. The xt30 has a larger display.- good. The xt30 has a pinpoint button that stays locked on - good. Xt30 has a a volume control - good.
Otherwise they are really the same in my mind.
Ace 250 has a 4.5 inch Sniper coil - way better. Ace 250 has 12 target segments - same. Ace 250 is multi tone - same. Ace has notching - same. Ace 250 costs about $200.00 less - real nice.
Is the XT30 a dog - no way! Neither is the Ace 250.
If the Xt30 was $200.00 like the Ace would it be better - maybe. Because there is no small coil out for the XT30
Also the Ace 250 sniper coil cost just $60.00 I would guess that when the XT30 small coil comes out it will be twice that amount.
