Minelab user wanting to try Troy Shadow series

silverseeker 2

Well-known member
Thinking of buying a shadow x3 or x5.
Will I be sorry if I get rid of my minelab exp.xs?
Input from experienced shadow users would be deeply appreciated
Thanks much!!!

Both are great detectors. Had to quit the ML because of it's weight. Shadow X5 does everyting I need it to do....

Coinshooting in the parks, woods, residential homes.I love my minelab xs, but it's a slow sweeper and I am ready to try something faster
and every bit as comprable in depth abilities and sensitivity to small
items and I heard the troy detector series is the way to go for a good all around machine!!Either the X3 or the X5...Thanks for
answering the post!

Yep, the X5 is actually more sensitive to small targets and gold jewlery than the ML. You can swing it slow or at a moderately fast pace without losing depth. Great discrimination and target separation. It's so light you can swing it all day without noticing......

It does have a bit of a learning curve to understand its capabilities....

Try to use one before you purchase as they are not available brand new with the Lifetime Warranty...

Yes you will be sorry if you get rid of the XS. If you want a faster sweep, you can try audio 1 and fast on and can swing it as fast as you like. The X-5 is a high freq unit and may pick up small bits and pieces of alum that may cause you problems. I don't own an X-5 neither am I putting it down but for turf hunting the Exp is great. My suggestion is keep the XS and buy the X-5 that way you can decide later if you want to get rid of one of them.

Both the Explorer and the Shadow X5 are great detector plus there is many more too. I used several different one just to see how they will work and will say the X5 was a great detector and does have some great depth too. I did some side by side comparisons too with a guy with the XS when I had the X5 and we could do about the same on target. The XS has the advantage to tell the ID of the target better too.
I have also use the X3 and find this one is a better competition detector and maybe a clad hunting detector, but the X5 will go deeper and work better all around and if I had to pick the X3 or a XS i would pick the XS with no second thoughts about it.

The X5 also has a learning curve too, but not a steep one. I find any target not disc out will lock on if you speed up the swing of the coil, but iron or one disc out the signal will break up when the coil is swung faster.
What is nice about the X5 is it is light weight and you can swing it faster, but like I say will not ID like the XS will.
