It seems that the Explorer II is a hot item these days .... never tried one. I have the SE Pro and have had excellent results. The SE has at least one feature that the Ex II does'nt. And that would be that the target ID works in pinpoint mode with the SE and not the Ex II . And of course you get the new 11" Pro coil, where the Ex II has a different stock coil. Explorer and ETrac are different detectors. And it has been suggested that you will have an easier time learning the ETrac if you have NOT used an Explorer model previously. Good luck !!

I'm too in the market for an SE Pro or Explorer. I like the target ID feature in the pinpoint mode on the SE Pro. Is there any other differences in the two? I'm mainly looking to use it in high trash area's for coin shooting and for use around old foundations. I might use it for beach hunting in the wet sand also. Thanks for the advise.

The ID in pinpoint for me was not the deal breaker between the EXII and SE Pro. If you shop around you can get the EXII worth the money and then add the Pro coil as I did. The jury is still out on the EXII for me. I have had good luck with it the 1st time out with the Sunray X-8 coil in a yard netting 3 Indian heads an a Barber dime. I am mostly a relic hunter and I am going to see what it does in the pastures with the new Pro Coil I got. I just have to tell myself to give it a chance, as I have been real lucky with my Xterra 70 with the 10.5DD coils. I'm sure that the EXII will get the deep silver, but not sure on the deep lower conductors yet. Gotta get use to a slower swing and the nulls between signals!!!

I have an SE and my buddy has the Exp II. We both have SEF 10x12 coils. The SE has a few more features than the Exp II. Comparing the two we found that they each could find the same objects when tuned comparatively.

Most notable differences between the XS-II and the SE Pro are:
1. "VCO Pinpoint" (tone increases as you get over the target)
2. Target ID in PP mode
3 Larger option in Iron-Mask settings. IM was wide open at -16 on the XS-II
4. "Pitch Hold" The Threshold retains the pitch of the last detected target until the next signal is located.
5. Instead of what most refer to as the 10" DD coil on the XS-II the SE Pro has the Pro coil. The SE is an SE-Pro without the Pro Coil fwiw.
6. SE-Pro has 3rd Generation processor (for quicker target response ID on the screen). Use your ears to determine what you dig then the screen as a reference.
7. The SE is Black and does not show the dirt as bad.

There are a few more subtle differences. Hope I helped.

Down and dirty the second run of the XS sep 2000....2 years old will run with the big dogs...been there done that....

just got my explorer II with pro coil about 1 month ago. and i have had a ratio of 3 times more coins than my whites detector would get. Dont get me wrong i love my whites but the EX 2 will defintely produce 3 times more results and the fact that it goes deeper is awsome. You can pic them up between 450-600 with extras the only thing is Minelab is only going to work on them for 1 more year.
