My mind was pondering the future today. Why not make a metal detector that you wear on your head like a helmet with a heads up display like the solders use with a wireless shaft and loop assy to swing. Not only would the part you swing be 2/3s less weight you would have instant eye /sound recognition.
The future is now ;>)

Some sue happy idiot would file a lawsuit claiming that the Heads Up display blocked their vision not allowing them to see obstructions resulting in tripping over something.

Good idea

But in the future it would have built in a/c to keep your head cool... Mater of fact all they would have to do is implant a chip in your head and wear some sunglasses as the display... Coil what coil, it is built into your shoes. But then in the future you wouldn't be allowed to dig up anything so your shoes have underground camera and it would take a picture of your find and tag it that you found it first.

If soldiers can fight wars and shoot rifles with HUDs.....I'm sure detecting should be OK. Could interface with a GPS unit for marking finds as well.

The technology is out there to do it.........just might be an expensive option compared to standard configuration.......people with deep pockets and aching bodies may take it up.

Having most of the electronics and batteries vest mounted would be more comfortable over time too.

LOL...
