Minelab submersible headphones bad right out of the bag

Has anyone had problems with the yellow minelab submersible headphones for the CTX 3030 ?

I attached mine for the first time and there is very very low volume coming from the right hand side and nothing from left hand side. Hardly any change even if I max threshold to 50.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks, Darryl

Did you turn up the volume on the audio setting button?

Yes I did. Just get very faint volume on one ear and nothing on other ear.

I think the submersible headphones are just junk.

The land phones work great.

Get the detector pro headphones. I like them a lot better than the minelabs and they have loader volume

I think your right. The Minelab ones are a total let down.

What a waste of money buying the Minelab submersibles.

That's a bummer Darryl,

I have both waterproof headsets, the Gray Ghost and a pair of Minelab.

Both work and sound great on my CTX, sounds like some of the waterproof Minelab headsets have issues.

Send in the headset to Minelab, I'm sure it's covered.

Keep up the CTX hunt, you'll like the unit for your type of hunting.

Thanks Paul,

I absolutely love the CTX........best detector i've ever used...and i've used alot of them in 35 years. Just can't tolerate under par equipment that fails right out of the bag. Wheres the quality control. The $$$ spent on these headphones...$149 to be exact is money wasted to me. The only reason I purchased them was because I didn't want warranty issues with unit if a problem ever came up with unit.

Darryl

I'm sure Minelab will replace them, give them a call they'll make good on the defective headset.

Plus, I know you're handle with a soldering iron you may want to pickup a couple of IP68 waterproof connectors and make your own waterproof headsets for backup.

You can even use a land headset with volume control with the IP68 connector, at least be waterproof from detector up to the bottom of headphones if you perfer volume over a straight waterproof headset.

I picked up several, Next time we get together will give you more infor were to get the connector.

See you in the near future, keep hitting those old sites.

I bought the GG when the came out used them maybe two times low volume and I don't even know where there at now? Don't even care to look for them! Agreed junk! But there better than any Koss headphones!
IMHO BCNJ

I bought a pair a few months ago, but haven't been in the water yet, so never tested them. you guys got me worried, so I tested mine, and sure enough - very low volume. I can turn the volume down to 5 before they get any fainter. how do I get them fixed???

Be sure to have WM10 not enabled to adjust the audio on the headphones. I don't use the WM 10 so it is disabled and my headphones work fine. Check your WM 10 settings before returning your headphones to the dealer or Minelab.

This is from the manual:

thanks for the suggestion
I got out the manual and did some reading and testing.
my "volume gain" is set at 24, and my "volume limit" is set at 15. with my regular headphones plugged into the wm10 or into the detector they are loud and work fine.
with the waterproof headphones attached to the detector they are much lower volume - turning up the volume limit to 30 makes them louder - but not enough. turning on or off the wifi has seems to have no effect in any of the non wifi modes / phones.

I have the GG water proof headphones, volume gain at 24, volume limit at 30, they sound fine to me. Minelab headphones might not be the best, but they should work. Call :minelab: I am sure they will take care of the problem.

I would send them Back, they will replace them if the time period is within limits and being unused..
The low volume from the Koss Yellows is caused by a short, I have repaired several Excalibur's with this low volume. Most of the Excalibur's have been used by divers, saltwater gets into the coiled cable and causes Resistance by corroding the copper. This is something you guys may see down the road if you hunt saltwater and you use the Koss Yellows. The GGUW, never had that problem, some do complain about the tinny audio, but those are the characteristics of Piezo Benders.
Working on Minelab CTX Speakered UW phones, testing with the excalibur first. Sending out a few test sets this year, see how they fair for the next 10 months. All are based on the persons likes...I'm using Audiosears 2463 (as used in Sunray Pro Golds, Blackwindow, Killer Bees, Jolly Rogers) Then Kobitones 25ce500, same as the Rat Phones.

My headphones are only a week old and they were bad right out of the bag. Mine lab called me this morning and told me the headphones are on back order but they will replace them when they get stock back in. I told them that I shouldn't have to wait and want a refund. They told me to contact my dealer.

A good dealer should take care of your problem, we all hate having problems with new toys (tools), but sometimes stuff happens. We all hate waiting for replacements, but sometimes we have to. I know it is hard to be patient, but hang in there, the problem should be corrected, and then you will be one happy :detecting: Good luck.
