Minelab Sovereign Transmit waveform

I wanted to know exactly what Minelab was up to so I used my Oscilloscope to test the transmit.
The Sovereign transmits at 12KHz for roughly 350us then at 21KHz for roughly 310us then repeats the sequence.
It appears that it does not transmit at 17 different frequencies simultaneously unless they are counting harmonics for the other 15.
I'm going to test with a spectrum analyzer next to examine this harmonic question.
The square waves levels are +5Vdc to -5Vdc, so it can be called an AC signal that is not sinusoidal.
Does anyone know how the double d coil is wired? One loop for TX and the other for RX?
Anyone have the pinouts?

Hope this helps and thanks for any coil information.
Will

I for one have also wanted to know alot more about how the sov works.

just dont have the brains, only the will.

ask these guys, some one will know there.

Do me a favor??? keep as all posted please.

Thanks for the link.

The 17 frequencies has something to do with the way the received signal is sampled. I think they are using the two frequencies that you mentioned, their harmonics, and some sampling technique to come up with the 17 frequencies claim. It must be this way because the Explorer, which claims 28 frequencies uses the exact same Tx signal. I have compared the signals from each detector on my scope and they are exactly the same....The Tx signal is connected directly across the Tx coil. There is a separate Rx coil that is connected to a pre-amp. This pre-amp is powered from the Tx signal using a bridge rectifier. There is a pdf of the sovereign coil circuitry on the geotech coil forums. If you cant find it let me know I will email it to you.
