Minelab Sovereign GT Newbie

I have had my GT for a few days now and have taken it to a lake front beach in Lake Tahoe. The first day I didn't find much. The second day I found a few coins and some nails/bolts. The third day I did a search of a little area of the beach and came up with about 10 pounds of scrap metal (including an old c-clamp) and a good assortment of coins. I must have been in an area where an old dock used to be. Now to my question: How do I figure out where the coin is actually located as to the coil (near the label/on the outside on the coil/etc.). How can I hone in on the coins and not so many nails/bolts.

...........................................Are you hunting in the All-metal mode!!?? On my XS, even if I set the discriminate on zero and the notch on zero, it still will not pick-up any regular size iron nails! It will pick up some of the larger iron objects!! To pin-point use the Sovereign Wiggle..............slow down over the target in the discriminate mode ................almost stoping but barely wiggling the coil you should pick up a solid signal toward the center of the coil.............now turn 90 degrees and do this again........this should give you a pretty tight pin-point area!!...................Joe

Hi, move coil back and forth from both directions to pinpoint the center of target. Then bo back and forth bringing the coil closer to you to see where the sound trails off. The center of the target is the top of my coil at about the 1100 position where the sound trails off. Try this a few times and I think you will get the hang of it. Someone else gave me this advice and it worked. Whereas I was accustomed to the center of the coil was the target, now it is the top of the coil at about the 1100 position where the sound goes away. Hope this helps. Bryan
