minelab sovereign Elite vs GT

Hi everyone,

I looked for an answer to this but couldn't find it in the previous posts. My question is: How does the Sovereign elite compare to GT in depth and recovery speed. If they are about the same, could you tell me if there are any other futures that separate the two? Sorry for the newby question, i am looking at some new detectors and thought that i give Minelab a chance.

Thanks

they are going to be the same in performance, especially if your new to minelab. just buy one and learn it. do a search on this site, its been gone over a bunch of times.

Both are great detectors like any of the Sovereigns, but I feel the GT is more sensitive and give a better signal on deeper targets than the Elite does. The Elite was the only Sovereign that they had moved the controls around so it made it harder for some of us to adjust as we were used to the controls where they were on our older models. They put the main controls back on the GT where the older ones were plus added the silent search for those that like it plus with just a flip of a toggle switch. They also added 2 other toggle switches, one for iron mask on or off on the GT as the older Sovereign like the Elite were always on other than the Original Sovereign had this too. On will get you coins close to trash, but may false a little more while off a coin close to iron or any disc out item would null. Now on the GT they also added another toggle switch so when in all metal you can now track and lock the Ground balance making the GT able to be used for Prospecting, this switch also had pinpoint as it was a 3 position toggle switch that was only active when in all metal. The other Sovereigns like the Elite only had the all metal pinpoint, so I feel Minelab added quite a few new items to the GT over the Elite plus I feel my GTs I have used gets more depth with better signals than the Elites I have used. I think if you are new to the Sovereigns you wont even notice a difference in the 2, but those that know the Sovereign well probably will notice the difference more.
Like I say the Sovereign models all are great detectors and they do well, just takes time and patience and you will do well.

Thanks a lot Rick, that was great info. I think the GT is probably better, i like the idea of the iron mask switch. Is the recovery speed exactly the same for both models?

Also, i noticed you had an F75 in your stable. The recovery speed on that machine is supposed to be very good. I have read that the Sovereign has a fairly slow recovery speed. I know that the Iron Mask feature is supposed to make up for this (recovery speed next to iron) but some experts say it doesn't really make up for the slow recovery speed and adjacent target separation is the key on many trashy sites. Whats your opinion on this? Sovereign GT vs F75?

Thank you very much for your help

The Sovereign is a slow working detector as it sees so much more, so you have to go slower and listen close to those good tone changes. I have got many nice coins next to trash items by going slow so all target can be seen. Now if you don't like to swing slow and want to swing faster than the F-75 does real good, but when I want to get serious I use my GT or the E-Trac.
I do find the small coil and using 2 Tones on the F-75 works the best for me instead of the multi tones as I get too much falsing of high tones. the 2 tones seem to lock on the targets better and use the meter to ID those signals that lock on.
I also feel the GT falses more than the Elite on iron, but easily tell the difference by checking for several angles as iron will move or not repeat.I also notice i get a better meter reading on the deep coins as most I can get to 179-180 while the older Sovereigns the deep ones may only get in the 160s, so I feel the GT is a bit more sensitive myself. I feel the recovery speed is about the same or a slight edge to the GT.

Thanks for the info Rick! I guess going slow is a matter of getting used to. Most detectors work best when you go slow.

I own a Elite and I feel it could get the same depth as a GT, so far I am happy with the way it functions. I have owned it for over a month now and I found a few silvers with it but I usually only detect on weekends when it's not so hot out. I also have a 180 meter & S-1 probe, and straight rod.
