Minelab SDC2300

Pricy choice for the beach. Someone mentioned they used it on VA Beach with no problem...... it is a PI. A lot will depend on how much you have to reduce the pulse delay for it to work near or in salt water. Thats a LOT of money to find even tinier pieces of metal deeper. Not been a great success rate for new waterproof machines .... being water proof. All those moving parts id also say wont last long. I see they are using 4 C cell batteries and a 8" coil which reduces the weight it could have weighed. You would really have to be a patient person to use it on most beaches..... and of course have deep pockets. I doubt they will discribe it as the ultimate beach machine...... its more for the gold fields. Dont be mislead by advertising.

I've only taken mine on one outing to the beach.
Quite like it, dug a few coins fairly deep, even in comparison to the CTX.

It slices like a warm knife through butter in seawater, doesn't seem to hinder it one bit. The treshold wavers, but returns to that recognisable hum no problem.
And because it is a closed coil it tend to skim through the water, an excalibur coil or a CTX coil needs a lot more effort to slice through the water.

Biggest problem I encountered is it tends to stick, create suction when you place it in a puddle on the sand.

I took a 6mm scoop and it easily finds bits and pieces that will slip through the holes.

Switch it on, do a noise cancel, adjust threshold and you're off.

It has a great all-metal sound and you can easily identify targets by their shape if you rotate around the signal.

If pocket money is an issue, then go for an Excalibur or a Sovereign. Great detectors and I wouldn't part with my EXII.
If you can get into the PI side of things, are OK with digging a lot of junk. You'll enjoy your outings with the SDC2300.
I like mine that's for sure!

As far as distinguishing iron from other stuff, the SDC gives a lovely "double blip" over bobbie pins and nails when they are scanned lengthwise. I Think this may be a feature,of it's so called Multi Period Fast "MPF" technology, where the transmit signal is shut off very quickly. It seem somehow to give better defined and sharper target signals than my three other PI detectors did. Unfortunately, I can't do a side by side since my DF PI, TDI and ATX were all sold to fund the SDC, LOL

Having said all this, I don't know if my SDC will ever see the beach since I live in Arizona. I got mine for gold.
