i bought a minelab relic hunter, i have never really used one before, i hooked up a brand new battery to it and it made some crazy racket there was a beeping noise and a staticy sound, i followed the directions and when i ran it over a quarter it would not make any noise not even a beep, it would make a beep or a staticy sound when i ran it over the ground but nothing to tell me it was actually working... is it broke, any troubleshooting advise besides what is in the book... i know this may not be the place to post this so if it is not im sorry but all help is appreaciated

Hello CB...
Not sure what machine you have - there was a Relic Hawk. You will need to understand the discrimination settings on the machine. Once you figure out the discrimination settings, set it at low or no discrimination. You should be able to now hear the quarter. Also if your machine has a sensitivity setting that should be set so that the machine operates smoothly. Too high a setting will give false signals. If both the disc. and sens. are set low and it is still acting erratic then I would say it needs repair.
Hope this helps and HH - BF

what type of detector is it ?? was it new or secondhand when you got it.
did you try detecting in the house if so it may be interference. is the coil cord plug done up tight as this will make a detector go nuts
