I'm not versed on those other machines, but I've owned a Quatro since 2005. I also haven't done any Civil War hunting, but I've done a lot of detecting with my Quatro, and I once found a penny at the beach about a foot deep. I just know the Quatro goes very deep, and seems to be pretty accurate on coin sized objects on the depth reading. I also love the fact that you can "dial out" or "in" anything you want within the discrimination range which is all the way from super ferrous iron all the way up to silver. I love that about the Quatro, that you can take a reading on, say, a shotgun shell, and "notch it out" of your life (so to speak) so you don't have to keep "reading" that shell number and digging them unnecessarily. When I read a copper penny it almost always reads a 34, and a nickel is almost always a 15 or so, so to me it's quite accurate on the numeric readings. I also love the fact that it just ignores mineralization and salt water problems at the beaches I hunt at. On the other hand, if for some reason--"it's just not your style of detector", then maybe it's time for a change. I just wrote this because I think your having second thoughts about giving up your Quatro. Whatever way you go, good luck and keep on "swingin' that thing". Marc Trainor.
