Minelab Musketeer X (Tribune Green) ?

Woodchuck

New member
Well I just picked up a Minelab Musketeer X (Tribune) green control body for $180 shipped did I do good? and is it any good? I picked it up out of curiosity.Hopefully i didn't waste my money.LOL. Ps on unit it says Musketeer X green unit

I'm not sure of that particular model Musketeer but I know in general the Misketeers have a rabid following. Said to be very deep machines even in rough ground and able to handle heavy amounts of iron trash (I think) while staying very rock solid smooth if I remember right. I bet those machines would have taken off more had they had tone alerts, or at least a VDI meter like you can put on the Sovereign.

Do a search in this forum for "Musketeer" and you'll find numerous threads on it, as the Sovereign forum seems to be the unofficial home of those machines.

Also, you ain't going to want to miss this thread. It's got a TON of information on all those models and a few others I never even heard of that revolved around the Musketeers.

Woodchuck, most of us buy detectors out of curiosity.Take it out a couple of times and try it out.The Musketeer is deep but loves bottle caps. The newer Advantage has a lot more sensitivity. If you put the Musky back on the auction block you could probably recover most of your money.Good Luck Ron

Hi Woodchuck, I have never used the model you are talking about but currently have (and use) a Musketeer Advantage, I have owned and used a Colt and a Musketeer XS in the past. There were/are all very good detectors, I really enjoy using the Advantage I have, it is deep enough, great discrimination, surprisingly good on jewelry for such a low frequency detector. Some say that they are alittle heavy but if you mount the control box under the elbow cuff they balance perfectly. Give the Musky a try you might be surprised how well it works for you. Check this page out http://www.findmall.com/read.php?21,1118356,1118564 scroll down to Sven's post, he has a users group on the Musketeer's, lots of useful info there. Let us know your Musketeer X (Tribune Green) works for you, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. Steve.

Back in 1996 when I first started using Minelab Sovereign they had a Sterling and the Musketeer, the Sterling was more of a coin detector and more of the low end Minelab. The Green Musketeer was a very sensitive detector and was a relic detector more than anything as it did love iron and did work OK for coins too, but love those rusty bottle caps. I had a new Musketeer in the shop and had a guy wanting to try something as he had a gold flake in a plastic case and wanted to see if this musketeer would see it. We tried it and it would, but not very far from the coil, he said this was the first detector he had tried it on that would see it and was impressed. If I remember right the air test were really good too on it, but like I Say it did love rusty iron.

I haven't done any air testing with my Musky (Advantage) yet but think I will as you all got me curious. I do know that mine does not have a love for iron, even when discrimination set real low I dig very little iron if any. It's raining today but if it stops and I get time I will do some air testing on some coins and post my results.

I have noticed the prices have dropped for a used Advantage, which at this point probably a good buy.I just couldn't deal with the appetite these units have for bottle caps.Good Luck Ron

Must be that where I normally hunt (school grounds, parks) doesn't have many bottle caps as I hardly ever dig any. I paid $265.00 for my Advantage w/stock coil, looks and works like new.
