Minelab model changes worth $

Can anyone tell me if the advance of 4000 4500 and the 5000 machines by minelab are much different or worth the difference in cash? Any pros and cons on the dif models would certainly be appreciated. We want the best we can get for the nugget shooting but not waste any excess either.
Thanks Much
Grumpy

Hello Grumpy, the differences between the models you describe is mainly in the timings. The GPX 5000 has a lot more timings over the previous models along with circuit changes that make it a lot better detector to use (smoother and quieter). One example is the Fine Gold timing which allows the use of a Mono coil in extreme mineralisation with minimal feedback from ground minerals and hot rocks but excellent sensitivity to small nuggets which would normally be masked by the mineralisation etc. All the Minelab PI detectors have excellent ground ignoring capability just that the later models do a MUCH better job of it.

Hope this helps,

Hi grumpy,

I own the 4000 which is an awesome machine. It's a massive improvement from the 3500 and well worth it.
The general consensus over here is that the 4500 is massively better than the 4000 again. The 5000 is better again but not by such a massive amount.
Having said that my mates with 5000's have gone over area's they've cleared with 4500's and picked up dozens of small nuggets they missed with the 4500.

The new timings make the soil quieter which means you can hear deeper into the ground. This translates to nuggets located that were being masked by ground noise before. If you can afford it I would go the 5000. If you are a newby I'd go the 4500 untill you learn what differences the different settings make. Less options but still a Darn great detector.

Dicko..
