minelab excalibur control cylinder noise

hello, i have an excalibur 800 .its a few years old. i recently put on a straight shaft and what a difference.but my question is when i swing the control pod hits me in the back and then i hear a tone in my headphones . is this normal? i tapped on the pod and it causes the headphones to have a tone. i dont remember it doing that before . but maybe it did. i dont remember. any advise would be welcome thanks

Before, you send it to out I would take the unit {Pod, Coil, Everything} off of the straight shaft, free and clear of all metal. Check and see if you still have the same problem. If it is still there you may have to go with the Gulf Hunters advice. I would not want to be out on vacation and have it stop on me.

thanks for the help gulf hunter and old beechnut. i did take the unit off and tapped on it and wouldnt you know it did.... nothing. but after a while i tapped on it again and there was a noise.but it didnt do it every time.i would tap on it a couple of times and it wouldnt do anything but minutes later it would. figures its one of those intermitting things i may just send it in for a check up. thanks again

I just sent my Excal II in for service and they said the turnaround time was about 2 1/2 weeks not counting shipping time.
