Minelab Excal Car Charger

Folks:

I received my Minelab Car charger for an Excall II. On the item it is labeled Minelab NiMH Charger. My question to the community is, will this charger work and charge my Soveriegn NiCad battery packs?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Peace,
Chuck

my suggestion is go to your local hobby shop and buy
a battery charger 12volt cycler this way you can charge
both and can keep them both up to par,it's also a fast charger too,
so you can charge quickly when needed, that car charger you got isn't a fast charger
it will take time, and doesn't work for nicads..
Hope this helps
John

I don't own a Soveriegn but own an Excalibur ll. It all depends if the dc voltages are the same and amp charge rate is the same and obviously if the connection is the same. A quick call to Minelab or a good dealer will answer the question.

Look at the plug in coming from the charger and see if it is the same as the one on the Sovereign, the Elite and the GT have the smaller plugs and should be the same charger as used on the Excallibur II and the Explorer packs. Now if you have a older Sovereign like the XS,XS2 or the XS2a the plug will different from what I have seen as they are bigger around like the original Excallibur.

Thanks for the info. I have left a message for Bill @ Minelab...the first people could not answer my question.

The charger has a plug that is larger than the newer GT and Eureka detectors. The receptical in the XS2A battery fits with this car charger. No information on technical specs, charge times compatibility are found in owner's manuals. I do know that NiMH are not designed to be re-charged as rapidly as NiCAD are able to be.

When I hear back from Minelab I'll be sure and post in case anyone else has the same question.

Peace,
Chuck
