Minelab Excal 1000 value?

Hi. Been a long time since I posted on these forums. I started out with a Minelab Explorer and then decided to get a water machine or 7-8 yrs ago and I bought a Minelab Excal 1000. I used it maybe 30-40 times and put it away and life got in the way of my hobby. Mostly used in lakes but 2-3 times I used in at Santa Cruz beach boardwalk (and it did find gold everytime!) It was rinsed in the fresh water showers every time it was in salt water.
Anyway I lost the charger but before I did that I charged it up and tried to use it and it squealed when turned on like some black sand was stuck in the coil or something. I didn't really mess with it and called to see if my warranty was still good and of course it was just outside of the warranty (I bought the extended coin warranty thingy) anyway it went into the closet until I moved out to MT. and now I have no use at all for a water machine here. I would like to buy a gold machine now so I'm looking to sell this machine. I emailed Minelab and they said of course they don't know what's wrong until they get it at the repair center and it would be $75 an hour labor and whatever parts cost. I'm debating offering it up here in the classifieds or ebay as is or having it fixed and then selling it.
Probably needs a new battery pack
Needs a charger pack
Might need to be repaired but maybe just sand and battery issue causing the squeal

What is it worth as is?

Fixed?

Thanks, Kyle

Get a volt meter and check the voltage on your battery, it should be between 13-15+/- volts. Excal makes some really weird noises once the battery goes below about 11 volts.... A new stock charger is $14.00

Minelab repair center charges $37.50 to diagnose a detector plus return shipping and the diagnose fee is applied towards the repair bill if you choose to have it repaired so if you choose to have it repaired you want have a diagnose fee.just repair fee.. Their labor is $75 hour billable in 15 minute increments..

Battery has no voltage it's been sitting years. It's going to need a new one I'm sure. Charger MIA.. Maybe nothing is wrong with it then. I guess I'll throw it up on Ebay and let the buyers decide what it's worth. I'm not interested in sitting on it anymore I want to get a gold machine asap.

Kyle,

If you have a alkaline pack with your Excal I would put 8 new alkaline batteries in it and try it and see how it acts, if OK then it will sell for much more as a person taking a chance on buying it, Not knowing it may go for less then $200 while working it should go over $600 even with the rechargeable being bad.
