Minelab Etrac vs Garrett AT Pro

Been detecting since the mid 1970's. Bought an Etrac a few months ago and have pulled several Indians at 9", Barber at 8", Buffalo at 6" and numerous Wheats at various depths from an 1880's house I'm working. My neighbor has an AT Pro and we have hunted together several times. He has come close to wrapping his AT Pro around a tree! Last week I got a perfect 10" deep coin tone, swung both ways, and it was a solid hit.

His AT Pro didn't squeak on my target..... It was a 1904 Indian at 9".

I have several detectors including an Ace 250, which is a fantastic machine. I tested my Ace 250 against the neighbors AT Pro and saw little differences in depth. (I have a nice coin garden).

With a smile I thanked my neighbor for removing all the surface clad and aluminum slaw, so I can focus my Etrac on pounding out 9" coins! He didn't like my sarcasm.

Etrac, a better machine.....

Hardly a valid comparison.
I love my e-trac and believe it to be a better machine that the MXT also but just about everything between the machines is different starting with number of frequencies right through the fact that the e-trac is at least twice as expensive. Be that as it is why don't you and your buddy go up to the nearest creek and dip your detectors for a few minutes and then see who has the better unit.

Good point, the AT Pro is waterproof, great feature! My thoughts are 99 percent of the coins are on land, not in the lakes and rivers. At least here in the mid-west, however if I lived near coastal areas I'd choose the AT Pro over the Etrac. I don't like snakes and poison ivy so I'll stay with the 1880 lawns in town.

The Atpro has some advantages like being waterproof and a fast sweeping machine. OK, it lighter in weight as well. Also it will find smaller jewelry pieces especially gold. But that is about it. The etrac is in another world. I was checking targets with my ATpro and Whites M6 against several etrac targets that Bill_S had marked. To make a long story short. Both my machines would either not see the targets or barely call them iron. One target was a Barber dime at 9 to 10 inches. Various deep Wheaties too. As far as depth and target ID the etrac was king. Having said that it would be good to have an ATpro or M6 for smaller Jewelry hunting. Plus they are good in real trashy sites as well. I'm not saying the AtPro or M6 are bad machines. They are both great machines. But for deep silver and Wheatie hunting the Etrac is the machine for that. The Etrac will find gold rings for sure as I have found several. I really think the Etrac and Atpro combo would cover most all of your hunting needs. You need the right tool for your specific job.

I bounce between stock coin mode and Andi S pattern. Auto plus 1-2. Deep off, Trash high, difficult. If it gets trashy I run fast, mostly normal. These old yards are where the coins are! Nothing like pulling an Indian head at 9". I should of made a video of the Indian dig, perhaps the next good signal.

Good report but its not really fair to compare a single frequency machine to a multi frequency Minelab. E-Trac is THE best sliver coin machine out!
