Minelab ETRAC help!

Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a Minelab Etrac, I was searching some ground where I previously found some silver coins. After about 2 hours of hearing no good tones, I became curious and put a silver half dollar, a silver dime and a silver quarter that I found before in the ground. I went over the coins and for some reason the Etrac didn't find it at all, it only would if it was on the surface. I was hoping someone could help me out, I was on the coin settings and I did a factory reset while i was out there just to make sure it wasn't something i did. I appreciate any help, thanks guys!

Did you hear any "blanking out" when you went over them? Did you try QuickMask with an open screen?

When you say you were "on the coins settings" I'm assuming you mean you were in Minelabs "Coin Program" Some other questions would be Auto or manual sensitivity settings? There are so many setting that can be adjusted it's a hard question to answer without knowing what they were. How deep did you bury the coins? Were the coins buried flat on edge?

I heard nothing and put it on an open screen and there was still no hit. And yes I was on the minelabs setting and tried it auto plus 3 and manual all the way up. At first I buried the coins about 6 inches and than 3 inches when they were about 3 inches I would have to concentrate right where they were, if I was just detecting I would have just walked right past them they were also flat.

To say that "that's just wrong" would be an understatement.
1. When you cranked the manual sens all the way up, did the detector get unstable, or 'chatty'?
2. Are you using headphones, and are they configured to give you full volume. (or are the signals all really quiet, and that why you "would have just walked right past")
If you're using headphones, try without. If not, make sure your detector volume is up.
3. Is this detector new and under warranty? (may need to call the dealer up sooner than later)
4. Is the ground abnormal? i.e. red dirt, and/or horrible mineralization? (horrible dirt can affect depth...a lot)
5. What is your level of experiance? How long, and with what detectors have you hunted?

E-tracs do require a 'familiarization' period, but that's just not right. :(

Now that is an interesting video!

To the OP'er, this is what i'd do,
-perform an Auto noise cancel per owner's manual in the test area
-As trojdor mentioned, try unplugging the headphones using open mask (all metal) and Auto sensitivity and see what happens
-Unplug and replug the coil connectors, make sure the connectors are seated properly
-if available try a different coil
-i'd contact Minelab tech support for advice especially since a factory reset didn't help, hopefully its still under warranty

Will it detect copper coins, nickels?
The one thing eTRACs exceed at is detecting silver coins, deep silver coins.
