Minelab Elite question on best setting for greatest depth

What would be the best setting for the Minelab Elite for greatest depth on regular soil, not the beach. Also by adjusting the discriminate & notch settings to except just coins do you lose depth as well? I'm not 100% sure. Thanks

yes you do,,try it in air,,it will give you some idea as to the amount of depth loss,,remember the readings will be different in the ground, depending on the mineralisation,,but minelab are one of the best if not the best machines at ground balancing whilst discriminating,, one of my other favourites is the tesoro cibola,,rgds ,comcat:ukflag:

i have an older sovereign and i have always been told that discrimination does not cause loss of depth. the only thing i have ever checked was sensitivity and if you drop it done to 3 o'clock you notice a loss of depth. just find a depper target and change different settings and see how it affects things. thats what i did on the sensitivity. good luck.

All metal mode ... max usable sensitivity ... WOT coil ... would be the deepest.

Always use as little discrimination as you can.
Learn to discriminate with your ears ... high tones usually = coins.

See how far you can adjust your discriminator knob before you lose a nickle in air test.
See how far you need to go to lose a clad penny.
See if you can discriminate out a dime or a quarter.
Where do you lose the pull tabs?
With the discriminator set just below a nickle can you hear the difference in tones between the different coins?
Now you are learning something you can use in the field.

i find that the best (deepest) mode (all metal vs disc) depends on the ground conditions, in some soil i find am deeper, while in others disc is deeper. just me 5 cents :)

hmmm my 15x12 SEF was deeper than the Wot 15" on the sovereignand explorer, but i'm talking wet beach, discrimination wise i use the ear, the rest on 0

different settings and modes for different locations, chucks post up above should help you Troy, its what will tell you how to get the best depth at your site with your elite. also if your getting any interference, switch bands. Ive run into a few locations where Ive had to switch mine and its helps quiet my GT down.

When Im using my GT in disc mode I always use the lowest setting so I couldnt tell you if the disc/notch effect the depth, but again referring to chucks post, try that on your targets and see what you come up with. air tests can help some but in ground is where you will see what it will do, and thats what your after anyways, what it will do in the ground.
