Minelab E Trac

Hello,
I orderd a Minelab E Trac on line from Kellyco a couple of weeks ago. A couple of days later I got an e-mail from them saying that my order is on backorder.
Didn't think much about it until I did some checking about it on the internet. Is it true that I could be waiting a long time for this detector?
Is Minelab in the process of moving it's production to Malaysia? Anyone know the real story about this?
Thanks for any information.
Dan.

I E-Mailed them,Minelab usa,and Minelab AU,I will post the response when i get one!

Dan, that seems to be the case.

Wait till you need it serviced guaranteed it will take 30-WORKING days, my e-trac has been in their shop twice, and in their hands longer than mine. They make great detectors but there service needs a lot of improvement.
Good luck,

My hunting time is short..So I am getting antsy too. LOL

mine was on backorder too, took a little over 3 weeks to get mine too, but it was well worth the wait, I have had it about 3 weeks now and I LOVE it

This may be a blessing. I read the new plant is one that also does a lot of military spec products which tells me quality control, and processes will probably make a better product. However, Minelab USA is also out of a lot of parts needed for service, so this part really scares me.

Is this a reorganization or something else. Minelab tends to be really poor with public relations explaining to us "the consumers" what they are up to.

Last I heard the Malaysia production line is still not running. It was suppose to be running in January. They have Tee'd off a lot of customers with their poor service, if you read on some of the other forums there are folks stating they are done with Minelab and others that have already purchased another machine because of the problems. I know of one large dealer that has already told them to shove it and canceled his orders and his Minelab dealership.
They make quality machines, but in the business world if you don't have good service and are not loyal to your customers in that aspect they will leave you every time.
I understand they are working on opening 2 service departments, one in Chicago, IL and another maybe on the East Coast. Take that with a grain of salt because it is hear say.
I have a few acquaintances that are dealers and they can not even get a straight answer, so who knows.

Got an e-mail today from Kellyco. The E Trac I ordered is on its way. Should be here next week. :clapping:
Dan.

I've ordered one from KellyCo and it's on back-order (shipment within the next 2 weeks ???). I've ordered a Sun Ray X-1 Probe on back-order until the end of May???? Good thing I have another detector and pinpointer to use until this equipment shows up. I think the wait will be worth it. On a brighter side, I've ordered a Garmin Oregon 450t GPS unit and it should be here next week.

Because of the world's economy is in such trouble, companies around the world have cut employment and production in fear of having too much inventory and too many employees for the weak demand for their products.

Problem is, with the price of gold and silver now edging up again, the demand for detectors is skyrocketing. With record unemployment, many of the unemployed are now metal detecting to make ends meet. The baby boomers are getting older and they are now entering the prime metal detecting years of their lives. So demand is especially high right now and in the foreseeable future.
Some metal detector companies (especially Minelab) seemed to not see that coming and so they were caught with low inventories at a time of high demand.

Many companies that make detectors are also making other products that demand electronic components that are used in detectors, so a shortage of parts is now an ongoing problem. Because component companies have cut production to match smaller demand, they did not foresee a strong demand from the detector companies.

Because Minelab products are thought of as being the top of the heap by many, their products have especially high demand. The moving of production to Malaysia when demand was so high caused much of the problem of availability.

This is a classic problem in business that has happened to many other companies that make great products. Matching production to demand.

I ordered a lower shaft, to use with an SEF coil, on February 10th and I'm still waiting on it.

Interesting. I walked into my local dealer yesterday and got an etrac right off the shelf. Guess it depends on where you live.

I was in contact with several dealers yesterday. One told me they got a shipment of E Tracs in and had 2 left after they filled backorders. (Detector Depot). Mine is coming from Accurate Laser in Texas and was shipped yesterday and will be here Wednesday. It seems like the bottleneck may be over.:clapping:

My dealer is having trouble getting them too..He had 3 on friday,Hes down too 2 now my bud bought one sat :) Not sure how long they will last or how long till more ship to him. This is tough on the guys who want them now thats for sure!

Hi: Yes there are major backorders at this time, Per Minelab there should be a rebound shortly on availability on all units as transitions are made. I am a dealer in Illinois and am slowly catching up, have units instock at this time. E-Trac,Safari,SE pro but slow to replace from Minelab. If anyone is interested S/W Shooters Supplies,Cordova,Illinois.
Hope this helps some. Hardrock
